Climate change delegates sign petition to ban water
AdvertisementDecember 9, 2010What would it take to get a petition signed at a conference on global warming?
As students from the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT) found, not much. Believe it or not, the substance that fills the Spokane River and all of the lakes in north Idaho was the subject of a petition presented to attendees at the Cancun Climate Change summit.
And what might that substance be? It is known as the best solvent on earth, and it has been proven to eat through rock and corrode metal.
The CFACT students used the name "Dihydrogen Monoxide", but we all know it as H2O, or water.
What makes this story scary is that delegates at the summit actually signed the petition.
CFACT writes:
It was designed to show that if official U.N. delegates could be duped by college students into banning water, that they could essentially fall for anything, including pseudo-scientific studies which claim to show that global warming is man-caused.
Or that obesity is caused by global warming, or that the industrialized world needs World War 2-style rationing and 20 years of zero economic growth.
But, if one adds a few scary sound bites and a scientific-sounding name, environmental activists will sign on. CFACT adds:
Despite the apparently not-so-obvious reference to H2O, almost every delegate that collegian students approached signed their petition to ban that all too dangerous substance, which contributes to the greenhouse effect, is the major substance in acid rain, and is fatal if inhaled.
Anthony Watts notes that one would think with all the education these delegates have, at least one would realize what they were signing. Sadly, though, that was not the case.
Another petition, entitled "Petition to Set a Global Standard" was designed to cripple the United States for refusinig to adopt the Kyoto Protocol. CFACT wrote:
The petition went so far as to encourage the United Nations to impose tariffs and trade restrictions on the U.S. in a scheme to destabilize the nation's economy. Specifically, the scheme seeks to lower the U.S. GDP by 6% over a ten year period, unless the U.S. signs a U.N. treaty on global warming.
CFACT noted that left wing environmentalists scrambled to sign this petition.
All of which proves that those who would cripple the West under the guise of "environmentalism" and "saving the planet" are little more than educated idiots with a grudge against the United States and the Western world.
Video of the signing can be seen at the CFACT web site, here.

Climate change delegates sign petition to ban water
Re: Al Gore applauds Reddit's decision to ban critics of man-made global warm...
--If I recall correctly, the last Ice Age carved out part of North America leaving behind when we had global warming.......the Great Lakes. Who or what caused that global warming......to many Indians building fires in their teepees......lots of big bad businesses spurring their filth into the atmosphere ......or buffalos farting? I think not and until I hear a reasonable explanation that explains away that period of global warming .....Al Gore can go pedal his voodoo BS else where. I believe the science says that natural global warming did occur as part of a great cycle of Earth's warming and cooling periods. I grant you that we may help it along but we ain't gonna stop it no matter how much money you send to Algore. In a message dated 12/31/2013 1:39:55 P.M. Al Gore applauds Reddit's decision to ban critics of man-made global warming
Heather Kennedy/Getty ImagesAdvertisementZoom inDecember 17, 2013It seems liberals these days have no real use for the whole concept of free speech. On Tuesday, former Vice President Al Gore applauded Reddit's decision to ban those who disagree with the idea of man-made global warming from its science forum.
"Climate deniers can no longer spread disinformation on @Reddit's science forum," Gore tweeted, citing an article at Grist.
According to volunteer moderator Nathan Allen, the reason for banning those who might disagree is simple: They're stupid, they engendered heated discussion and get their information from blogs and Fox News.
Moreover, he added, those who disagree with him and his ilk are "not capable of providing the science to support their 'skepticism' on climate change."
He also accused so-called "deniers" of being funded by the fossil fuel industry without offering any real evidence:
"Over and over, solid peer-reviewed science was insulted as corrupt, while blog posts from fossil-fuel-funded groups were cited as objective fact. Worst of all, they didn't even get the irony of quoting oil-funded blogs that called university scientists biased."
The answer, he added, was "proactive moderation." In other words, only those who agree with him would be allowed on the forum.
The result, he said, was a "change in the culture within the comments." That, of course, is natural, since Allen has ensured that only one side of the issue can be discussed.
But Allen wasn't finished.
He also suggested newspapers take the same action, ensuring that only one side of the climate change issue be presented.
"So if a half-dozen volunteers can keep a page with more than 4 million users from being a microphone for the antiscientific, is it too much to ask for newspapers to police their own editorial pages as proficiently?" he asked.
While such censorship was all the rage in dictatorships like the former Soviet Union or Nazi Germany, it's an alien concept in the United States where free speech is celebrated.
A number of people took Gore and Reddit to task for the comments, Twitchy said.
"Banning different views? I'm not sure," one person tweeted.
"That's the only way you can win a debate," another person added.
Ironically, Allen claimed that "as a site, Reddit is passionately dedicated to free speech."
"Could've fooled us," the staff at Twitchy said.
