I am a racist - Paul Weston

Paul Weston is a British politician and leader of the Liberty GB Party in the U.K who dearly loves his country and wants the culture to remain as it has been for a long time. But he sees that changing now and because of his outspoken passion on this, he's been labeled a 'racist' by everyone, he says.

So Weston has taken to video to accept the judgment of the people and admit he's a 'racist'.

And an Islamophobe.

This is a MUST WATCH. And if you think it's a little slow, just keep watching because it only gets better to the end.

Intended or Unintended Consequences

[We're approaching the point at which the only controversy remaining about Obama's foreign fiascos is whether they are the product of his gross incompetence or his carefully laid plan. df]

WaPo, June 20

America sidelined, barely relevant

By Charles Krauthammer

The war in Syria, started by locals, is now a regional conflict, the meeting ground of two warring blocs. On one side, the radical Shiite bloc led by Iran, which overflies Iraq to supply Bashar al-Assad and sends Hezbollah to fight for him. Behind them lies Russia, which has stationed ships offshore, provided the regime with tons of weaponry and essentially claimed Syria as a Russian protectorate.

And on the other side are the Sunni Gulf states terrified of Iranian hegemony (territorial and soon nuclear); non-Arab Turkey, now convulsed by an internal uprising; and fragile Jordan, dragged in by geography.

And behind them? No one. It's the Spanish Civil War except that only one side — the fascists — showed up. The natural ally of what began as a spontaneous, secular, liberationist uprising in Syria was the United States. For two years, it did nothing.

President Obama's dodge was his chemical-weapons "red line." In a conflict requiring serious statecraft, Obama chose to practice forensics instead, earnestly agonizing over whether reported poison gas attacks reached the evidentiary standards of "CSI: Miami."

Obama talked "chain of custody," while Iran and Russia, hardly believing their luck, reached for regional dominance — the ayatollahs solidifying their "Shiite crescent," Vladimir Putin seizing the opportunity to dislodge America as regional hegemon, a position the United States achieved four decades ago under Henry Kissinger.

And when finally forced to admit that his red line had been crossed — a "game changer," Obama had gravely warned — what did he do? Promise the rebels small arms and ammunition.

That's it? It's meaningless: The rebels are already receiving small arms from the Gulf states.

Compounding the halfheartedness, Obama transmitted his new "calculus" through his deputy national security adviser. Deputy, mind you. Obama gave 39 (or was it 42?) speeches on health-care reform. How many on the regional war in Syria, in which he has now involved the United States, however uselessly? Zero.

Serious policymaking would dictate that we either do something that will alter the course of the war, or do nothing. Instead, Obama has chosen to do just enough to give the appearance of having done something.

But it gets worse. Despite his commitment to steadfast inaction, Obama has been forced by events to send F-16s, Patriot missiles and a headquarters unit of the 1st Armored Division (indicating preparation for a possible "larger force," explains The Post) — to Jordan. America's most reliable Arab ally needs protection. It is threatened not just by a flood of refugees but also by the rise of Iran's radical Shiite bloc with ambitions far beyond Syria, beyond even Jordan and Lebanon to Yemen, where, it was reported just Wednesday, Iran is arming and training separatists.

Obama has thus been forced back into the very vacuum he created — but at a distinct disadvantage. We are now scrambling to put together some kind of presence in Jordan as a defensive counterweight to the Iran-Hezbollah-Russia bloc.

The tragedy is that we once had a counterweight and Obama threw it away. Obama still thinks the total evacuation of Iraq is a foreign policy triumph. In fact, his inability — unwillingness? — to negotiate a Status of Forces Agreement that would have left behind a small but powerful residual force in Iraq is precisely what compels him today to re-create in Jordan a pale facsimile of that regional presence.

Whatever the wisdom of the Iraq war in the first place, when Obama came to office in January 2009 the war was won. Al-Qaeda in Iraq had been routed. Nouri al-Maliki's Shiite government had taken down the Sadr Shiite extremists from Basra all the way north to Baghdad. Casualties were at a wartime low; the civil war essentially over.

We had a golden opportunity to reap the rewards of this too-bloody war by establishing a strategic relationship with an Iraq that was still under American sway. Iraqi airspace, for example, was under U.S. control as we prepared to advise and rebuild Iraq's nonexistent air force.

With our evacuation, however, Iraqi airspace today effectively belongs to Iran — over which it is flying weapons, troops and advisers to turn the tide in Syria. The U.S. air bases, the vast military equipment, the intelligence sources available in Iraq were all abandoned. Gratis. Now we're trying to hold the line in Jordan.

Obama is learning very late that, for a superpower, inaction is a form of action. You can abdicate, but you really can't hide. History will find you. It has now found Obama.

Anonymous and state-sponsored hackers threaten energy sector

Anonymous and state-sponsored hackers threaten energy sector

by paganinip

The energy sector is threaten with increasing frequency by hacktivists, state-sponsored hackers and cybercriminals…

The number of cyber attacks against energy sector is increased creating great concerns within the security community. Oil and gas firms are subject to continuous offensives moved by hacktivists and state-sponsored attacks, their activities are crucial for any country and due this reason are considered privileged targets.

Anonymous for example is conducting a new campaign dubbed OpPetrol to protest against the West's domination of the world's resources. The hacktivists protest against the energy sector for the adoption of US dollars as currency for oil exchange.

"Why this Op? Because petrol is sold with the dollar and Saudi Arabia has betrayed Muslims with their co-operation. So why isn't petrol sold with the currency of the country which exports it,"

The Anonymous collective menaces the companies in the energy sector with a new wave of cyber attacks, the hackers may conduct distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, steal sensitive information from corporate systems, disclose sensitive information gathered during the attacks, deface their social media accounts and websites, but principal risks are related to the possibility to sabotage a critical system with specifically crafted malware.

This is a war without borders, the attacks from cyberspace will target companies working in the energy sector in various countries such as UK, USA, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar, Canada, Israel, China, Russia and many others countries.

Following the list of targets provided by Anonymous:

The operation seems to target the following countries:

  • USA
  • CANADA
  • ENGLAND
  • ISRAEL
  • CHINA
  • ITALY
  • FRANCE
  • RUSSIA
  • GERMANY

Governments that will be attacked

  • SUADIA ARABIA
  • KUWAIT
  • QATAR

Companies that might be affected

  • Shell
  • Aramco
  • British Petrolium
  • Total
  • Texaco

Every industry involved in oil and gas is menaced, private security firms such as Symantec issued a specific warning for companies inviting them to be extra vigilant in concomitance of campaign starts.

"Symantec advises organisations to be prepared for attacks in the coming days. Organisations should monitor for unusual activities in their networks, particularly any attempts to breach the perimeters,"

"Staff members should be specifically trained on social engineering mitigation tactics along with regular security awareness training. As always, we continue to stress the importance implementing a multi-layered approach to defense."

Anonymous said they had already compromised about a thousand websites, 35 thousand credentials e-mail and more than 100 thousand Facebook accounts as part of this campaign. While Anonymous threats oil and gas sector, many other suspicious attacks hit the Iranian Oil Ministry's computer network according Mehr News Agency.

The specific malware used to infect systems is a backdoor trojan known as Cycbot, which allows the victims making them part of a huge botnet stealing sensitive information after have deactivated the security processes that are running on the system. Antivirus and firewall, therefore, are not enough to protect themselves.

The agency revealed that the attacks that interested the Iran's Oil Ministry, the National Iranian Oil Company and some other companies have failed. The infrastructures were reportedly down due to the cyber attack but no information has been leaked and no sabotage successful.

The Iranian energy sector is continually attacked by foreign governments that tries to sabotage it, similar attacks was carried out against Iran's Oil Ministry between the April and May of last year. The most striking hit Iranian facilities in 2010 when Stuxnet was used to sabotage national enrichment program.

In April 2011, Iranian Government announced the discovery of the cyber espionage malware known as Stars virus, the second agent that hit for this purpose the country after the popular malware Duqu linked to Stuxnet worm.

To respond to the attacks and ensure security of cyberspace the Government announced the establishment of a Supreme Council of Cyberspace.

The events demonstrated the great interest of state-sponsored operation against the energy sector of hostile government such as the Iranian one. From a defensive point of view the menace must be analyzed on the same perspective, no matter its origin. From attacker perspective the concomitant action of state sponsored hackers, hacktivists and cyber criminals could advance each other.

Source codes of principal malicious agents are easily findable on the underground market, these malware could be used by each of the above actors to hit the targets hiding the real motivation of the offence and the nature of attachers. The choice to use these codes could advantage a state sponsored attackers in the spread of the more sophisticated agent in a diversity action, at the same time cybercriminals and hacktivist could have all necessary to attack strategic objectives without having particular knowledge.

The  energy sector of most industrialized countries is still too vulnerable to cyber attacks but what is really concerning is the level of knowledge necessary to create serious damage, a recent report published by US Government that reveals that critical infrastructures of the country are vulnerable to cyber attacks and that all necessary for the attackers is available on the Internet.

Cyber security is a must for any government, not only for energy sector.

Pierluigi Paganini

What Is the Safest Day of the Week for Surgery?

What Is the Safest Day of the Week for Surgery?

Posted By Theodore Dalrymple On June 11, 2013

Everyone who needs an operation (which eventually will include most of us) wants to be assured that it will be carried out in the best and safest conditions possible. All operations are serious for those having them; a minor operation, as the British physician George Pickering once put it, is an operation carried out on someone else.

Most people with the time or ability to search for the best hospitals, surgeons, etc., will not think of considering the day of the week on which the operation will be performed as a factor of safety. It has long been known that emergency operations done at night or on the weekends have worse results than those done during the day on weekdays; but what about routine or planned operations, those (the great majority) that can be done at the surgeon's and hospital's leisure, as it were?

A huge statistical study done in Britain and recently published in the British Medical Journal examined the 30 day death rates after all non-emergency operations performed between 2008 and 2011 (except day cases) according to the day on which the procedure was performed.

There were in total 27,582 deaths after 4,133,345 operations, a raw rate of 6.7 per 1000: a figure that by itself would have astonished our forebears, who were used to, and took as inevitable, death rates at least a hundred times higher.

What the researchers found was that people who underwent an operation on Fridays had a death rate 44 percent higher than those who underwent an operation on Mondays, while those who underwent an operation on the weekend had a death rate 82 percent higher.

Of course, the patients might have differed by more than the day of the week on which they were operated; but the authors corrected their figures for such factors as age, sex, ethnic group, comorbidities (i.e., the presence of other illnesses that might have affected outcomes), and numbers of medical emergencies in the last few years. They also corrected for economic status which they called "socioeconomic deprivation," a term that is philosophically loaded. The difference remained after these adjustments.

They also broke down the death rates from operations of various categories. They examined the figures for hazardous operations such as removal of the stomach or oesophagus, colon, or lung, coronary artery bypass graft, or removal of abdominal aorta aneurysms. They examined the figures for what they called high-volume, low-risk operations such as hip and knee replacements, inguinal, femoral, and abdominal hernia repairs, and removal of the tonsils. The effect of the day of the week on the safety of the operation was constant.

They also found what to me was rather strange, that the death rate increased steadily as the week progressed. I do not think this can be accounted for by the authors' preferred explanation, that patient care on the weekends is less good than during the week, since most of the risk of operation occurs immediately afterwards. Perhaps hospital staff, especially surgeons and nurses, grow steadily more tired or careless as the week progresses.

Be that as it may, the question arises what the average patient is supposed to do with this information. It goes without saying that not everyone who needs an operation can undergo an operation on Monday. So long as the information is not known by everyone, therefore, the wise patient would be well-advised to keep it to himself. A small number of patients, but not many, can ask for their operations on Monday and have their wishes respected. Knowledge is power, no doubt, but in this case only if it is not knowledge that not everyone shares.
