Obama's New World Order: Power to Our Enemies, Death to Our Friends

Obama's New World Order: Power to Our Enemies, Death to Our Friends, and a Fish in the President's Face

Posted By Michael Ledeen On July 3, 2013

[1]

The anti-Morsi, anti-Muslim Brotherhood, and therefore anti-Obama demonstrations in Egypt are the biggest in human history. It's quite something, an historic event. Whatever the outcome, we should pay attention. What does it signify? Are we now in a new world? Has there been a paradigm shift? Does it portend similar huge protests elsewhere, even here in the USA [2]? Does it require rethinking basic policy options? Or is it just an Egyptian thing, or maybe an "Arab street" thing?

If you've been following Spengler [3], as you should, you know that Egypt is a failed state, where there is a real danger of starvation, and it is tempting to describe the demonstrations as a reaction to misery, as an act of desperation.

No doubt that's a big part of the monster demonstration. How could it not be? On the other hand, politics is an independent variable, and I think that, alongside those threatened with starvation, many Egyptians don't want to become "the new Iran." Those millions of Egyptians look to me more like "the people" — all classes, heterogeneous convictions, even multigender — than a sociological, political, or religious category.

Egypt under the fist of the Muslim Brotherhood was looking more and more like Khomeini's vision of Islamic government, and millions of Egyptians don't want to go there, let alone do that.

The Muslim Brotherhood organized its takeover of Egypt by following the same strategy as Hezbollah in Lebanon: offering social services the state was unable to provide, organizing the faithful and telling them that their government was failing because it was godless, and assuring them that Allah would bless a regime that followed his dictates. The Egyptians got the Brothers' version of sharia, hence less freedom, alongside the hunger pains. The biggest demonstration in human history thus pits Sunni Muslim against Sunni Muslim, not Sunni against Shia, or Muslim against infidel.

[4]

The biggest demonstration in human history is a blow to Obama as well as a humiliation of Islamism. And you might expect Obama — who has favored the Muslim Brotherhood ever since he insisted they sit in the VIP seats at his Cairo speech to "the Muslim world" — to have worked out some sort of effective strategy for this crisis, which was not hard to foresee, and which was announced well in advance. So what did he do? True to his principles, the president is sticking with the Islamists. He's even sent "crowd control" experts to Cairo to give advice to his pal Morsi (is there such a thing as an "expert" capable of "controlling" more than ten million people en masse? I don't think so). He instructed his ambassador to lecture Egyptian Coptic Christians about the importance of supporting the Brothers, even though the Copts are being attacked in the streets and killed in their churches.

It's reminiscent of the worst moments of the first Bush presidency, when George H.W.B. called on the Ukrainians to resist the temptations of independence and stick with the just-become-former-Soviets in his infamous "Chicken Kiev" speech. Like Bush The Elder, Obama is sticking with the tyrant he knows and likes, rather than rallying to the side of Morsi's suffering people, who cheekily embrace American values, even as they express their contempt for an American leader who supports the Brotherhood.

Obama is hoping that Egypt 2013 will be a replay of Iran 2009, that the people will be crushed, and that the regime will survive.

History's on his side. Most revolutions fail. On the other hand, tyrannies are the least stable form of government, and ours is a revolutionary epoch. The Muslim Brothers may well be the Bolsheviks of the Arab world, but they don't have Lenin's evil genius for enforcing their will on the masses, Kerensky didn't have Twitter, and Morsi doesn't have Felix Dzerzhinsky (Islamists don't put Polish Jews at the head of the security service, so far as I know).

[5]

Time will tell, but Obama's luck may have run out, both in Egypt and in Syria. His pals in the Brotherhood — and their Salafist fellow travellers — may crash and burn, and Bashar Assad — best thought of as the factotum of the Russian and Iranian tyrannical counter revolutionaries — may prevail over the "Syrian opposition." And for extras, Obama's close friend and advisor, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, is facing demonstrators against his Islamist government, which is increasingly stressed by economic and demographic stresses and strains.

FOOTNOTE:

Claire Berlinsky, who writes from Istanbul, should get a Pulitzer for her wonderfully informative and delightfully written accounts of events in Turkey for City Journal. Take this one [6], for example, in which she reports that "during the initial days of the crackdown, CNN Turkey aired a documentary about penguins precisely as the international media showed the chaos on Istanbul's streets to the rest of the world." Isn't that terrific? And she goes on to compare it with the weak performance of the U.S. ambassdor in Ankara. Read the whole thing.

With all the excitement, it's hard to tell who's winning, even with a good score card, so let's do a preliminary tally. In Syria, Obama's supporting the largely Islamist opposition, and says "Assad must go." In Egypt, he's with the Islamist Morsi and the Brothers. In Turkey, he's with the Islamist Erdogan. Can you spot a trend? They're all radical ideologues who condemn the United States as a force for evil. (To be sure, the Syrian case offers no attractive "solution," but that is largely because Obama failed to support the opposition when it was seemingly politically and religiously moderate). His guys are under siege, as is Obama himself, and not just in the Middle East.

[7]

His African expedition produced stern moral lectures about gay marriage from the presidents of Senegal and Kenya, and a cold fish in the face [8] from Vladimir Putin, who trampled Obama at their latest get-together. The Russian president has thrown more cold fish regarding the Snowden affair.

Add it all up: embrace radical ideologues, abandon those who advocate greater freedom, and what do you get? Contempt, which Machiavelli tells us is the most dangerous reaction to any would-be leader.

Contempt is fully justified; Obama is constantly overtaken by events. "Leading from behind" is simply another way of admitting that this president doesn't understand the dynamics that are roiling the world. Well, what did you expect from a product of our failed educational system? Our most prestigious colleges produce graduates who know very little about the real world; they get indoctrinated rather than educated. They are ignorant, yet they are firmly convinced that America is the root cause of the world's problems, and they sing the false incantations of political correctness: that all cultures (except ours) are equally worthy of respect, and all men (except ours) are basically good.

You can find true believers in the dormitories of our best liberal arts universities, often side by side with their professors. One of them got himself elected president, and he is producing the ruinous results you'd expect from such a misguided worldview.

Unable to cope, incapable of leading, Obama is dragged along in the wake of a geopolitical tidal wave. He takes "credit" for whatever actually happens, and pretends that it's a Good Thing. This worked for a while, thanks in large part to a sycophantic media and a pathetic opposition in Washington, but Obama's dropping popularity suggests that time is now working against him. The world see through the fluff and feathers.

When the president of the United States only attracts a handful of admirers to hear him speak in Berlin, and gets booed in Soweto, you know that things are not going well.

Argentina Blocks Prosecutor from Telling Congress About Iran's Troubling Terror Network

Argentina Blocks Prosecutor from Telling Congress About Iran's Troubling Terror Network

Posted By Bridget Johnson On July 2, 2013

WASHINGTON — Nearly two decades after Middle Eastern terrorism left its devastating calling card in South America, special prosecutor Alberto Nisman issued a searing 500-page indictment drawing meticulous and harrowing connections between Iran and Islamic radicalism in the Western Hemisphere.

Going beyond the 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish center in Buenos Aires, which killed 87 people and injured more than 100, Nisman painted a picture of Iran and Hezbollah's vast network of sleeper cells in America's backyard conducting "activities you wouldn't imagine" or waiting indefinitely to receive an order to attack, the prosecutor told reporters when he unveiled his report in late May.

Nisman first accused Iran and Hezbollah of being behind the terrorist attack several years ago. But his new report details the infiltration of several Latin American countries through intricate intelligence networks and stresses that the AMIA bombing was just one cog in a greater plan: "a segment in a larger sequence."

Congress wants to hear from Nisman about his investigation, and he's willing to come to Washington to talk not only with lawmakers but the Obama administration.

But Argentina is now blocking the tenacious prosector from sharing his findings with Congress.

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), former chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and current chairwoman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, invited Nisman — "a well-recognized, towering figure when it comes to going after bad guys and human-rights violators" — to brief Congress, she told PJM on Tuesday.

"People just don't know that Iran sees Latin America as fertile ground," Ros-Lehtinen said. "…I invited him to come. He was going to come educate Congress and the administration on the real threat Iran poses."

"Few people if any know about this bombing, which should have acted as a wake-up call for us on Iran," she added in reference to Nisman's original subject of investigation.

Nisman was also sought by the House Homeland Security Committee, which scheduled a hearing titled "Threat to the Homeland: Iran's Extending Influence in the Western Hemisphere" next Tuesday at the Subcommittee on Oversight and Management Efficiency. The panel's chairman, Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.), tweeted, "I invited AMIA prosecutor Nisman to testify about Iran's influence in western hemp but Argentine gov denied his request. Not transparent."

According to Argentine media, Nisman was ordered by Prosecutor General Alejandra Gils Carbó to not talk to Congress because the testimony "is not related to the function of the public prosecutor."

The government then "clarified" that it was an issue of approving travel costs.

But the Argentine government's historical lack of forthrightness surrounding the AMIA bombing — and recent coziness with Iran on the investigation — just leads to suspicion over President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner's true intentions in keeping Nisman bottled up.

Her husband, late President Nestor Kirchner, admitted in 2005 that the government covered up evidence to stymie the investigation into the attack. After that apology came Nisman's first accusation pointing toward Hezbollah and Iran, eventually naming the shot-callers as Mohsen Rabbani, Iran's cultural attach√© to Buenos Aires at the time of the bombing and the alleged coordinator of Iranian cells across the continent; Mohsen Rezai, currently Iran's secretary of the Expediency Council; Ali Akbar Velayati, minister of foreign affairs at the time of the attack; then-President Hashemi Rafsanjani; then-Intelligence Minister Ali Fallahian; and, as the final stamp of approval, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Interpol red alert notices are active for Rabbani, Fallahian and Rezai. Upon protest from Iran in 2007, Interpol's executive committee agreed not to issue red notices for Rafsanjani and Velayati.

Rezai and Velayati were among President-elect Hassan Rouhani's challengers in this year's presidential election. "In any part of the world, they would be in prison; in Iran, they run for president," Nisman said.

Nisman said last week that Rouhani, then secretary of the National Security Council, was not at the meeting that green-lighted the 1994 bombing — but has "irrefutable proof" that Iranian leaders coordinated the attack.

Incredibly, Argentina agreed with Tehran this January to put the case to rest not by necessarily bringing any of the suspects to justice, but by establishing a joint "truth commission" whereby Iran would investigate its own involvement in the terror attack. The memorandum of understanding was given Tehran's final stamp of approval in May, just before Nisman released his damning report.

"To not allow him to travel to the U.S. is a misguided act and it reaffirms the truth commission is a farce," Ros-Lehtinen told PJM, adding the restriction on Nisman coming before Congress is a "deplorable situation" that "goes against his right to freedom of expression and freedom of travel."

"Iran continues to harbor and support extremist elements," she said. "…Shame on President Kirchner and anyone who's had any say about not allowing him to come."

Ros-Lehtinen said she believes Kirchner is "betting on Iran being the winner in all of this power play" — and assuming that Iran will have more sway over the continent in the long run than the United States.

The Islamic Republic's expanded influence in the Western Hemisphere was even confirmed in the State Department's annual international terrorism assessment [1], which was sent to Congress a day after Nisman issued his report and warned that sponsorship of terror by Iran and Hezbollah has surged to "a tempo unseen since the 1990s" with attacks spanning three continents.

The report implicated Iran in attacks in India, Thailand, Georgia and Kenya, as well as the plot to murder the Saudi ambassador in Washington. "The thwarted plot demonstrated Iran's interest in using international terrorism – including in the United States – to further its foreign policy goals," the State Department said.

Ros-Lehtinen noted the wave of Iran's diplomatic and cultural missions popping up across Latin America. "No one in Latin America is trying to get to Iran," she said. "These are being used as fronts to deepen their influence in the Western Hemisphere."

Nisman said Iran's terror network in Guyana was behind the 2007 plot to blow up the jet-fuel supplies at JFK International Airport. Two men, a U.S. citizen and a Guyanese citizen, were convicted in the conspiracy in 2010.

Ros-Lehtinen said she expected Nisman, who has been brushed off as a "Zionist" by Iran, to travel beyond Washington during his time in the U.S. and meet with some Jewish groups.

She said the Foreign Affairs Committee was waiting until Nisman had secured his visa to schedule a hearing, but now, in an effort to get around Argentina's ridiculous block on his visit, they may have to ask the prosecutor to brief lawmakers via videoconference.

Ros-Lehtinen is still hoping Nisman will be able to air his warning of the broad terror threat in person, in public before the committee. "We could schedule it in a New York minute," she said.

French expert links UK royal baby to Muhammad

Published: 06 Jul 2013 08:41 GMT+02:00 | Print version
Updated: 06 Jul 2013 08:41 GMT+02:00

The baby's relations will stretch from a simple Parisian actress via the Dracula princes in Romania, to even an Islamic sultan from Seville in Spain, who descended from the Muslim Prophet Mohammed, experts say.

Even before the birth of the new British royal baby to Prince William and his wife Kate, genealogists are looking into its family tree, and are coming up with many surprises.

The family tree of the baby's father Prince William, who is second in line to the throne, is strongly tied to the European Gotha line.

There one finds, alongside all Britain's kings, the sovereigns of Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Austria, Spain and a good number of German sovereigns.

The British family was called Saxe-Coburg-Gotha until 1917, date on which, mired in a war with Germany, it opted for the name Windsor.

On the side of the mother-to-be Kate Middleton, on the other hand, there is a majority of commoners.

The late "Queen Mum", the mother of Queen Elizabeth II, and Princess Diana, William's mother, were not born princesses.

But "William's alliance with Kate Middleton really managed to democratise the baby's family tree," the famous genealogist Jean-Louis Beaucarnot, who dissected the baby's ascendance in July in the "La Revue Francaise de Genealogie" (the French genealogy review) told AFP.

The future king or queen of the United Kingdom will be cousin with a large number of his or her subjects.

The paternal forefathers of Kate, who is known as the Duchess of Cambridge, were relatively well off.

However, "on her mother's side she has largely working class ancestry from the English north," Scott Steward, member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS) and the co-author in 2011 of a book on Catherine Middleton's family tree told AFP.

Her family tree contains coalminers, a linen maid, bakers, and a London street sweeper.

One also comes up with a certain Arthur Lupton who taught English to German poet, playwright and scientist Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

More unexpected, is the discovery of Edward Thomas Glassborough, who was put behind bars in 1881 in London's Holloway prison. The reason for his imprisonment remains a mystery to this day.

But there are other surprises in store in the royal family's family tree.

Through Queen Mary, the wife of King George V, who ruled from 1910 to 1936, the line stretches back, according to Beaucarnot, right to the princes of Transylvania and Walachia in Romania.

That leads back in the fifteenth century to the Princes Dracula. Among them figures the Voivode Vlad III, also known by his patronymic name Dracula, who was was posthumously dubbed Vlad the Impaler. He inspired, by his cruelty, the Irish writer Bram Stoker's famous vampire.

Another discovery: a certain Hyacinthe-Gabrielle, an actress at Paris' Palais Royal, brought to England during the revolution by her lover then husband, the Marquis of Wellesley and a direct ancestor of the "Queen Mum".

Via another French woman, a protestant noblewoman born in 1639 in France's region of Poitou, the child will even be a cousin of late French president Francois Mitterrand, while her mother is related to the first president of the United States, George Washington

Through its grandmother Diana, the royal baby will have a link with the families of Winston Churchill and Lord Marlborough, who inspired a popular French folk song.

On the side of celebrities, there are links to the American actress Ellen DeGeneres and the British film director Guy Ritchie, the former husband of Madonna.

But the most astonishing discovery is a little-known ascendancy of one of its distant ascendants, the queen of France, Marie de' Medici, descendant of Alphonse VI of Castillia, who died in 1109.

His fourth wife Zaida, who was an Islamic princess converted to Roman Catholicism, had as an ancestor, according to Beaucarnot, "a king of Seville considered a direct descendant of the Prophet Mohammed".

Jihadist Group: We Started Arizona Wildfires

Jihadist Group: We Started Arizona Wildfires

Oh the many facets of jihad! Now we're seeing fire jihad in America. According to reporter David Barnett, a Palestinian jihadist group, Masada al Mujahideen, has recently claimed credit for the ongoing wildfires in Arizona in a statement that was posted to a jihadist forum on Wednesday.

Barnett reports:

The statement, titled "Masada al-Mujahideen Fulfilled its Promise and Attacked America Again After the Expiration of the Period with Fires that Achieved Historic Results," was obtained and translated by the SITE Intelligence Group.

"We had previously announced an unconventional war against the occupation state of Israel, and then we escalated this war to reach its main supporter, America, so that it receives a major share of it, which will destroy their flora and fauna, with permission from Allah and then with our hands," the group said.

The statement further said that the group targeted the United States "in order to make it clear and to make it know we can reach it when we warn it, and to make it certain that our hands don't just reach it but also strike it."

The group warned that the attacks "will not be the last…if America does not respond to our demands." The statement boasted that 19 firefighters had been killed in the fires.

Authorities contradict Masada al-Mujahideen's claims, saying that they believe the fires were started by lightning.

This is not the first time they have claimed responsibility for fires in the United States. In January of 2012, they also claimed credit for wildfires in Nevada and they have claimed credit for over a dozen fires in Israel since 2010. They have also claimed numerous attacks on Israel other than the fires, including rocket and mortar attacks.

Masada al-Mujahideen formed in April of 2008, claiming Abu Omar al Ansari as its leader.

Whether their claims are true or not is anyone's guess. However, Pamela Geller points out:

The devout Muslim group, Al Qaeda, has long urged the setting of forest fires as a form of jihad (holy war). Spring 2012: al-Qaeda's English-language online magazine, Inspire, published an article called "It Is of Your Freedom to Ignite a Firebomb," which featured instructions on how to build an incendiary bomb to light forests on fire.

What should disturb everyone is that anyone would claim responsibility for such atrocities, especially these guys, right? They're from the "religion of peace" (Yes, there's loads of sarcasm laced in that statement.)
