How your smart phone can compromise privacy and endanger your children

by Dr. Eowyn

Do you have a smart phone that takes pictures?

Do you post those pictures online -- on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Photobucket?

If you do, and especially if you post pics of your kids, you need to watch this video.

Why? Because hackers can find out the exact location of where you took your pic! For example, if you took a pic of your kid in her bedroom, pedophiles can just right-click the pic and get your home address.

Watch this video to find out how you can disable the GPS feature that betrays your location.

Fwd: There's A Thin Line Between Tracking Terrorists And Tracking Consumers

There's A Thin Line Between Tracking Terrorists And Tracking Consumers

Geoffrey Ingersoll, provided by

| August 15, 2013

http://www.chron.com/technology/businessinsider/article/There-s-A-Thin-Line-Between-Tracking-Terrorists-4735760.php

Algorithms used to target terrorists are the same ones used to target

consumers.

Granted, one set is targeted for drone strikes (and now drug arrests) while

the other for t-shirts, nonetheless, the similarities are striking.

As we recently reported, Unit 8200 is Israel's tech intel unit of arguably

the best military intelligence gathering apparatus in the world.

Matthew Kalman of The Guardian shows how former 8200 alumni use the same

complex computer algorithms that track potential enemy communications to

also help create marketing/advertising software for companies that want to,

for example, match "clothes and accessories to suit your taste."

So private companies track user metadata - location, search history,

browsing history, etc - on the web in order to market products. This is why

if you search "photography" several times, your Facebook page will feature

advertisements for photography products.

Consequently, the NSA tracks metadata in just the same way, for much the

same reasons.

A lot can be told about a person based on metadata alone, whether it's from

web browsing or from telephone communications (really from any

communications).

James Ball of the Guardian cited an appellate court's opinion when it came

to just collection of location metadata from phone transmissions:

A person who knows all of another's travels can deduce whether he is a

weekly churchgoer, a heavy drinker, a regular at the gym, an unfaithful

husband, an outpatient receiving medical treatment, an associate of

particular individuals or political groups," it read, "and not just one such

fact about a person, but all such facts.

That's just telephone data, the government also collects metadata from

browsing on the web. And, no different from private companies, a clear

picture of a person's likes, dislikes, personal habits, even patterns of

movement, begins to emerge even if they don't necessarily know that person's

identity.

The valuable nature of said information is not missed on intelligence agents

and marketing agents alike.

From The Guardian:

"A lot of the practices and the technology that we used in the army are used

today at Stylit to address the problems we are aiming to solve in fashion,"

said Yaniv Nissim, a former 8200 programmer who designed the company's

algorithm by combining the wisdom of former army tech geeks with fashion

industry stylists. "The technology is mainly machine-learning technology.

It's how to take huge amounts of information and from that to understand

users' behavior."

Kalman himself sums it up best, writing, "most fans of Stylit, a website

where a virtual personal stylist matches clothes and accessories to suit

your taste, are unaware that it uses technology adapted from algorithms

originally developed to track and prevent suicide bombings."

Fwd: Obamacare Exemption: None Dare Call It Treason

Obamacare Exemption: None Dare Call It Treason

Posted on August 15, 2013 by Cowboy Byte

Even by the standards of Washington, this is one sick, twisted and deceitful deal. Quite possibly, it is a whole new low, even for the federal government.

Had we innocent, taxpaying citizens not long ago lost our capacity to be outraged by the disgraceful manner in which this place operates, we would already be in all-out political revolt. Against President Obama. Against Democrats in Congress. And, especially, Republicans.

Literally, revolutionary wars have been fought over less.

Last week, while many Americans spent hard-saved money on long overdue vacations, the snakes and weasels inside the federal bureaucracy schemed until they hatched an evil plan. It would feather their own nests with more of your money, protect themselves from the ravages of the laws they foist upon us, desecrate our Constitution and then smear us with insult so putrid it would make a roadside vulture gag.

All the legal, constitutional and parliamentary maneuvering is enough to confuse Albert Einstein, but here is the bottom line: Congress and staff managed to get themselves exempted from one of the most punishing aspects of Obamacare.

Yes, you should be sharpening the tines of your pitchforks.

Back when the President and his henchmen rammed Obamacare through Congress, Republicans inserted a key provision requiring that whatever Frankenstein healthcare boondoggle got yoked upon the hardworking American people would also be yoked around the necks of every congressman and staffer on Capitol Hill. President Obama, being the slick fellow that he is, made sure it did not apply to him or anybody working for him in the White House.

The noble idea was that if they were seizing control of our titanic -- yet still largely functioning --health care system and started ramming into every passing iceberg, then, by God, they were not going to get to be first in line for the life boats. No, they were going to go down with the ship.

If Obamacare was good enough for the American people, it should be good enough for Congress.

Well, that was BEFORE the bill passed, when they still needed to get it through. Now, it simply will not do.

It turns out that the healthcare packages currently provided to Congress and their staff are so generous and the squalor that will be caused by Obamacare is so terrible that the healthcare law simply cannot be applied to such precious people.

The thought is so terrifying that staffers from both parties in both chambers of Congress declared they would quit if forced to endure Obamacare. To those of us paying the bills around here, this sounded like a great idea.

But the federal bureaucracy blanched in terror. There would be a mass exodus of "talent," they shrieked. There will be a "brain drain!"

After all, without these people, who would come up with all these fantastic new laws like, say, Obamacare?

I mean, if it was "talent" and "brains" that got us into this mess, maybe it's time to try something else. Like letting them all quit. Or exempting all Americans from Obamacare.

Instead, after personal pleas made directly to President Obama, his administration quietly ruled last week in the dead of August that Congress and staff would be exempted.

Now they will dispute this and say that, indeed, they are being forced out of their cushy government health insurance plans and into the Obamacare health exchanges. This much is true. But there is a dirty, dirty secret. You are still paying for their insurance.

If a regular citizen makes $100,000 a year working for a private company and loses his insurance because of  Obamacare, he must pay out of his pocket for the insurance he will be forced to purchase from the exchanges.

However, if you are a sainted Congressional staffer earning $100,000 a year and enter the exchanges, guess who picks up the tab for your new insurance plan? That's right, your employer, the federal government, the lowly taxpayer.

In other words, under Obamacare, the only people forced into the exchanges whose insurance will still be paid for by their employer will be members of Congress and their staff.

Not only is this sneaky, self-dealing and cynical, it is a dishonest bait-and-switch. And once again, we lowly taxpayers are the suckers who get stuck with the bill, get chained down by their terrible laws and laughed at all the way to the hospital.

Fwd: RACISM CARD LOOKING A LITTLE DOG-EARED

Racism card looking a little dog-eared

By: Ann Coulter
8/14/2013 06:01 PM

RESIZE: AAA

Print

0

Do liberals have any arguments for their idiotic ideas besides calling their opponents "racist"?

The two big public policies under attack by the left this week are "stop-and-frisk" policing and voter ID laws. Democrats denounce both policies as racist. I'm beginning to suspect they're getting lazy in their arguments.

Stop-and-frisk was a crucial part of the package of law enforcement measures implemented by New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani that saved the city. Under David Dinkins, who preceded Giuliani, murders averaged about 2,000 a year. There were 714 murders in New York the year Giuliani left office. Continuing Giuliani's policing techniques, Mayor Michael Bloomberg's New York had only 419 murders last year.

Just during his first year in office, Giuliani's policies cut the murder rate an astonishing 20 percent. Thirty-five percent of the crime drop nationwide from 1993 to 1995 was attributable solely to the reduction of crime in New York City during Giuliani's first year in office. (The New York Times hailed this remarkable achievement with an article headlined, "New York City Crime Falls but Just Why Is a Mystery.")

It was mostly black lives that were saved by Giuliani's crime policies. By the end of his administration, the Rev. Calvin Butts, liberal pastor of Harlem's Abyssinian Baptist Church, was describing Giuliani as King Josiah of the Bible, who "brought order, peace, the law back to the land." The black minister told The New York Times, "I really think that without Giuliani, we would have been overrun."

About the same time as the Rev. Butts was comparing Giuliani to King Josiah, Richard Goldstein of The Village Voice claimed he felt less safe in New York under Giuliani. It was the ravings of a madman, like saying winter is warmer than summer. But now, Goldstein's ideas are being delivered from the federal bench by Judge Shira Scheindlin, who recently held New York City's stop-and-frisk policies unconstitutional.

Yes, Democrat Bob Filner can pat down his female employees, but cops can't pat down suspected criminals.

Liberals wail about guns, but how do they imagine police get guns off the street without going to high-crime neighborhoods and stopping young men acting suspiciously? Giuliani's policing policies, including stop-and-frisk, reduced gun homicides in New York by 75 percent within five years.

It is precisely the fear of being caught with a gun that induces young hoodlums not to carry them. The word gets out: Don't carry a gun! It's not worth the risk.

Of course cops don't find many guns anymore! That's because they're doing stop-and-frisk.

By liberals' logic, the government should stop doing meat inspections because it turns up so few cases of contamination these days, anyway. We can also drop the metal detectors at airports. How many people does the TSA actually catch trying to sneak guns onto airplanes?

Have liberals polled the elderly black residents of high-crime neighborhoods on stop-and-frisk? As soon as the word gets out that it's now safe to carry weapons, spray paint, drugs and stolen goods again, hoodlums will rule the streets and the elderly will, once more, be confined to their homes. As Martin Luther King said, crime is "the nightmare of the slum family."

But liberals don't care about the innocent black victims of crime. They don't care about citizens being prisoners in their own homes — as long as it's not in their neighborhoods. The important thing is, liberals get to self-righteously preen about racism.

When a policy that has saved thousands of black lives is attacked as "racist," the word has no meaning. At this rate, liberals will be claiming that peanut butter sandwiches are racist — except that wouldn't be as crazy.

Voter ID laws don't actually save black lives the way stop-and-frisk policies do, but it's not clear how such laws hurt them. I suppose the argument is that by allowing Democrats to steal elections, they can pass all those laws that improve black lives immeasurably, like promoting trial lawyers, gay marriage, abortion and amnesty for illegals. You know, the Democratic policies that really enhance black lives.

The claim that modern voter ID laws are a racist Republican plot to prevent minorities from voting is complicated by the fact that, in 2011, such a law was enacted by the overwhelmingly Democratic Rhode Island legislature and, in fact, was pushed through by black Democrats.

Despite the pleas of national Democrats who realized their cover was being blown, the state senate's only black member, Democrat Harold Metts, sponsored a voted ID bill. He said he'd heard complaints about voter fraud for years, telling the story of one poll worker who encountered a voter who couldn't spell his own last name.

A black legislator in the House, Anastasia Williams, complained that when she showed up to vote in 2006, she was told she had already voted. Another time, she saw a Hispanic man vote, go to the parking lot and change his clothes, then go back in and vote again.

If white liberals are so concerned about black votes counting, why don't they ever vote for black representatives in their own congressional districts? Black Republicans are always elected from majority white districts: Gary Franks, J.C. Watts, Tim Scott and Allen West.

But black Democrats apparently can get elected to Congress only from specially designated minority districts. How come white liberals won't vote for a black representative? Can't a black person represent Nita Lowey's district?

Democrats do nothing for black Americans except mine them for votes, which they do by telling tall tales about racist Republicans.

Fwd: King Obama vs. Rule of Law -Have we ever seen such presidential contempt for constitutional principles and our nation’s history?

To obarfo the constitution is just another brand of cheap toilet paper.

THE OBAMA WATCH

King Obama vs. Rule of Law

By Betsy McCaughey on 8.14.13 @ 6:08AM

Have we ever seen such presidential contempt for constitutional principles and our nation's history?

At an August 9 press conference, President Barack Obama said that when Congress won't agree to what he wants, he will act alone. That statement, which he has made before, should send shivers through freedom-loving Americans.

The President was asked where he gets the authority to delay the Affordable Care Act's employer mandate, even though the law states that the mandate "shall" go into effect January 1, 2014. The Obama administration had announced the delay on July 3, without seeking Congress's help in changing the law.

In response, Obama said that "in a normal political environment, it would have been easier for me to simply call up the Speaker and say, you know what, this is a tweak that doesn't go to the essence of the law… so let's make a technical change to the law. That would be the normal thing that I would prefer to do."

But Obama explained that he took a different route because Republicans control the House of Representatives and ardently oppose Obamacare.

Obama's statement reveals how disconnected this president is from this nation's history and constitutional principles. Divided government is the norm in the United States. Most modern presidents have had to govern with an uncooperative Congress or at least one house of Congress controlled by the other major party. With the exception of Richard Nixon, these presidents — from Eisenhower, to Reagan, to Clinton, and both Bushes — have not tried to exempt themselves from the Constitution.

Article II, Sec. 3 of the Constitution commands the president to faithfully execute the law.

Courts have consistently ruled that presidents have little discretion about it. President Obama can't pick and choose what parts of the Affordable Care Act he enforces and when.

The framers duplicated the safeguards their English ancestors had fought hard to win against tyrannical monarchs. Most important, the English Bill of Rights of 1689 barred an executive from suspending the law.

The tug and pull between the president and an uncooperative Congress is what the framers intended. It's checks and balances in action. Obama has no patience for this constitutional system. In June 2012, the President announced that he would stop enforcing parts of the nation's immigration laws, because "We can't wait" for Congress to offer relief to young illegal immigrants brought into the country by their parents.

Now the President is rewriting the Affordable Care Act. Delaying the employer mandate is not a mere "tweak." Because individuals will be required to have insurance as of January 1, 2014 or pay a penalty, some ten million currently uninsured or underinsured workers who would have gotten coverage at work under the employer mandate will now have to pay the penalty or go to the exchanges. That means more people enrolling on the exchanges, more dependence on government and a bigger bill for taxpayers. It's not the law that Congress enacted.

Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) has urged Congress to vote against any continuing resolution to fund the federal government after September 30, as long as it funds this distorted version of Obamacare.

"Laws are supposed to be made by Congress, not… (by) the president," Lee explained. If the administration is not prepared to fully enforce Obamacare as enacted, including the employer mandate, it should agree to delay the entire law and remove its funding from the budget.

Sadly most members of Congress are too busy looking out for themselves to stop the president from chipping away at the Constitution. Last week Republicans and Democrats conspired with the president to weasel out of Sect. 1312 of Obamacare, which requires members of Congress to get health coverage on the newly created exchanges. Congress was happy to let the President unconstitutionally give them a special taxpayer funded subsidy that no one else in America earning $174,000 would get.

Such self-dealing brings to mind what Benjamin Franklin warned about, as he and his fellow framers finished writing the Constitution. It's a republic, said Franklin, "if you can keep it."

A group called The American Muslim Political Action Committee (AMPAC) is planning a one million Muslims march to Washington D.C. on September 11th. The timing of the group's march is seen by many as tasteless (to say the least) considering it is scheduled for the anniversary of the worst domestic massacre in American history perpetrated […]
