Fwd: U.S. firm building six-square-kilometer bunker for Israeli military

http://www.geostrategy-direct.com/geostrategy-direct/secure/2013/09_25/mi.asp

U.S. firm building six-square-kilometer bunker for Israeli military

WASHINGTON — The United States has launched a project to build a massive bunker for Israel's military.

The Defense Department has awarded a U.S. company a contract to build a bunker for Israel's military. The Pentagon awarded a nearly $30 million contract to Oxford Construction of Pennsylvania for a six-square-kilometer bunker for an unidentified military facility in Israel.

"This is a Foreign Military Sale to Israel and the performance location will be in Israel with funding from fiscal 2013 other authorized funds." the Pentagon said.

In a statement on Aug. 30, the Pentagon said Oxford, based in Philadelphia, would construct a 6,000 square meter basement. The statement said the basement would be underneath an existing building.

"This contract was a competitive acquisition via the web with three bids received," the Pentagon said.

Oxford did not provide details of the contract, the second Israeli military underground facility reported over the last year. But in a statement, the company said it has begun working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, assigned to oversee the Israeli project.

Officials said the Army Corps of Engineers was helping Israel's military build underground facilities to protect against missile attacks from Iran, Lebanon and Syria. They said the corps oversaw Israeli projects for the Army, Navy and Air Force that used U.S. military aid, set at $3.2 billion a year.

In 2013, the Army Corps of Engineers issued tenders for a $100 million underground military facility in Israel that matched the description of the latest Pentagon award. The tender said the project called for the installation of elevators, cranes, generators and fire extinguishers.

Fwd: US in Secret Negotiations with Terrorists

http://www.geostrategy-direct.com/geostrategy-direct/secure/2013/09_25/do.asp

Iran's foreign minister tied to secret dialogue with U.S. administration

Deemed the pro-Western face of the Rowhani government, the Iranian foreign minister has acknowledged sending greetings to Iranian Jews for the Jewish New Year as well as corresponding with Americans close to President Barack Obama.

Mohammed Javad Zarif

  Task: Iran Minister of Foreign Affairs

  Assumed Office: August 15, 2013

  Age: 53

WASHINGTON — Moscow role in the recent Syria crisis has been well reported. What is perhaps more significant is Iran's influence in the suspension of a U.S. air campaign on the Assad regime.

The dialogue between Obama and Teheran has moved from one of virtual secrecy to that where messages are exchanged through U.S. allies in the Gulf. In essence, Washington is deferring to Iran on the most critical Middle East issues.

Officials and analysts said Washington and Teheran have expanded their dialogue, particularly on Syria. They said the dialogue consisted of both direct messages as well as those sent through Middle East and other leaders.

"There has been a steady exchange of messages, and with the election of [Iranian] President [Hassan] Rowhani, we are hopeful that this will become more frequent and meaningful," an official said.

On Sept. 9, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif acknowledged that his government was engaged in a dialogue with the United States. Zarif said the two countries were exchanging messages but did not have plans for direct talks.

"Currently there is no such intention," Zarif said.

[On Sept. 14, Russia and the United States reported an agreement for the elimination of Syria's chemical weapons by mid-2014. Under the accord, the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad would be given one week to declare its CW stockpile, the subject of a dispute between Moscow and Washington.]

Zarif was believed to be the main interlocutor of the United States. Deemed the pro-Western face of the Rowhani government, the Iranian foreign minister has acknowledged sending greetings to Iranian Jews for the Jewish New Year as well as corresponding with Americans close to President Barack Obama.

Iranian President Hassan Rowhani with Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif.

In September, Zarif received a Tweet from the daughter of U.S. House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi. Christine Pelosi, whose mother is regarded as close to Obama, wrote Zarif that his New Year greetings were insufficient to assuage American Jews.

"The New Year would be even sweeter if you would end Iran's Holocaust denial," Christine wrote.

Zarif's reply was swift and suggested a new policy by Teheran. "Iran never denied it," the foreign minister said on Twitter. "The man [former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad] who did is now gone. Happy New Year."

The Obama administration has not confirmed the dialogue with Iran. But officials pointed to reports of Obama sending messages to Rowhani through foreign leaders, including Oman's Sultan Qaboos.

Analysts asserted that Obama sent a high-level envoy directly to Teheran in late August. The envoy was identified as former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Jeffrey Feltman, who served as ambassador to Lebanon.

A leading U.S. analyst on the Middle East, citing the Iranian media, said both Feltman and Qaboos could have sent messages from Obama to Rowhani. Mehrzad Boroujerdi, director of the Middle Eastern Studies program at Syracuse University, said the White House might have sought Iranian restraint concerning the war in Syria.

"There were two important visitors in Iran — one a former U.S. official who's now serving the UN and then the sultan of Oman," Boroujerdi said. "And the rumor mill in Teheran seems to indicate that both of these gentlemen might have carried messages back and forth between Iran and the U.S., which is not inconceivable considering the U.S. interests, wanting to make sure that Iran doesn't do anything crazy when it comes to the Syrian conflict."

The administration has already signaled its intention to ease restrictions on engaging with Iran. On Sept. 10, the Treasury Department issued two licenses for U.S. exports to facilitate humanitarian aid to and sporting events with Iran.

"This action further demonstrates this administration's commitment to reinforcing ties between the Iranian and American people," Treasury said.

Some of the analysts linked Obama's acceptance of a Russian plan to eliminate Syria's chemical weapons stockpile to consultations with Iran. They said the administration, despite an initial Obama effort for air strikes, determined that any major attack on the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad could harm U.S. reconciliation with Teheran.

"Iran must be involved one way or another, whether it's through direct or indirect negotiations," Alireza Nader, a specialist on Iran at the Rand Corp., said.

Putin Proves Obama Still Rank Amateur

September 21, 2013 by Fred Weinberg

Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama SC Putin Proves Obama Still Rank Amateur

Just about a year ago, I wrote a column suggesting that Barack Obama is NOT some kind of evil genius whose goal is our total enslavement.

I suggested that he's really just an arrogant, incompetent putz who has no clue about how government really works.

.

To put a point on it, I suggested that he could not wear either Bill Clinton's or George W. Bush's jockstrap when it comes to governing or government. And that, frankly, anybody who is using him as a modern day Manchurian candidate is wasting their time.

The events of the past two weeks tell me that not only was I right, but that even having been re-elected once, he's still incapable of learning on the job.

Can you imagine either Clinton or Bush getting rolled by the likes of Vladimir Putin over a minor league Arab dictator like Syria's Bashar al-Assad?  There is an undercurrent being floated by Obama supporters that John Kerry's "rhetorical statement" last week that triggered Putin's "offer" was no accident.  That it was part of a master plan put together by the geniuses who brought you Benghazi a year ago.

Right.  And there are still bridges in Brooklyn for sale.

The fact is that Obama has no foreign policy or foreign policy team and desperately needed a way out of the corner he painted himself into.

Putin, whatever else he is, is a consummate politician and took advantage.

The net effect will be that al-Assad lives to play another day; and his conduct, conduct that would get most dictators in similar situations hanged, will be punished by, well, nothing.

Oh, yeah…Obama will get off the hook he hung himself on.

Now, out here in Northern Nevada, we don't know much about foreign policy.  And we're not experts like Barack Obama or John Kerry.

But we're smart enough to know that they got their butts kicked by a guy who used to run the KGB and would dearly love to be back in the days of the USSR.

The spectacle of Putin lecturing the United States on peace in the New York Times sort of puts Obama's apology tour after he became President into perspective, whether or not the Democrat Kool Aid drinkers want to admit it.

Syria is not the issue.  It is a client state of Russia, just as North Viet Nam was a proxy for the former Soviet Union.

Iran is the issue.

They are the destabilizing agent in the Middle East, and they are developing a nuclear weapon.

We don't need to worry about the Russians.

They may be mean-spirited, but they are not crazy.  We both still have big enough nuclear arsenals to wipe each other off the map several times over.  And neither Russia nor us is insane enough to do that.

For those who don't study history, the concept is called Mutually Assured Destruction.

That means sane people will generally not commit genocide, no matter how diametrically they are opposed politically.

Both Russia and the United States fall into that category.

But an Islamic Iran is a whole different animal.  And if they are not certain we WILL wipe them from the face of the Earth, armed with a nuclear weapon, they might use it.

That is the penalty we pay for having Barack Obama as President and John Kerry as Secretary of State.

Assuming we can contain Iran, Obama probably won't cause lasting damage to our foreign affairs because he'll eventually be gone and a President will take his place who, hopefully, has a better grasp of how the world works.

But right now, it's open season on us.

And that's not the result of a plan.  It's the result of a bunch of rank amateurs in the White House.

As we pointed out a year ago.

Re: Obama Defies Congress [naturally] and Keeps Immigration Position They Eliminated

Majority Disapproves of Obama's Job Performance, Support Slips Among Young Americans

|Sep. 20, 2013 2:33 pm

The latest Reason-Rupe poll finds President Obama's approval rating has declined from 50 percent in May to 43 percent in September; disapproval has shot up to 51 percent. Obama's support has also slipped among young Americans, a critical group in his reelection coalition. Since May, Obama's approval among 18-29 year olds has declined 8 points from 62 percent to 54 percent. Nevertheless, the president still enjoys support from a slim majority of young people, and administration critics may find that young people perceive criticism of the president as really opposition to societal progress rather than simply an assessment of the president's policies.

Young Americans Still Like the President, Disappointed with Un-kept Promises

While Obama's approval among young people has declined, it's important to note that disapproval for the president has not exceed 40 percent since last year, standing at 38 percent in September. This suggests that while enthusiasm for the president has subsided since his 2012 reelection campaign, young Americans do not despise the president. Anti-Obama memes are unlikely to be successful in changing hearts and minds within this age group.

While young people do not dislike the president, they are disappointed in what they perceive to be his un-kept promises. For instance, the President has contended his administration is the "most transparent administration in history;" however, a majority (54 percent) of young people disagrees, while 44 percent agrees.

Considerably more young people disapprove of President Obama's handling of foreign policy (48 percent) than of his general job performance (38 percent), while 42 percent approve of his foreign policy handling (54 percent approve of general job performance). Moreover, only a third (35 percent) believe Obama has handled foreign policy better than predecessor George W. Bush. In contrast, 25 percent say his foreign policy handling has been worse, and 37 percent say it is no different. In sum, 62 percent of young Americans don't perceive President Obama's handling of international affairs to be any better than President Bush's.

Presidential Approval Declines Among Young White Americans, Remains Constant Among Young Nonwhite Americans

The Pew Research Center reported in 2009 that 61 percent of young Americans 18-29 were white and 39 percent were nonwhite, including African-Americans (14 percent), Latinos (19 percent), and Asians (5 percent). (In contrast 80 percent of seniors are white and 20 percent are nonwhite). The increase in diversity among today's young people prompts further analysis of millennials' attitudes taking into consideration differences in race and ethnicity. Doing so reveals young Americans' complex set of attitudes toward President Obama.

A slim majority (52 percent) of young white Americans disapproves of Obama's job performance, and 39 percent approves. In contrast, more than two-thirds of young nonwhite Americans approves of his performance, while a quarter disapproves. However, in January, Obama also had near majority support of young white Americans, when 50 percent approved of his job performance and 44 percent disapproved. Since January, support for the president has declined 11 points among young white Americans. In contrast, young nonwhite Americans support the president in roughly equal proportions in September as they did in January. It is necessary to keep in mind margins of error are considerably wider for these smaller subgroups; however, even assuming a 10-point margin of error barely coalesces these groups.

One may have expected a decline in support for the president since May amidst the IRS and Department of Justice scandals and controversial revelations of NSA surveillance and the situation in Syria. However, these data suggest that the aforementioned events had a differential impact on perceptions of the Obama administration between white and nonwhite Americans under 30.

Perceptions of the Obama administration's transparency also diverge when accounting for race and ethnicity. Young nonwhite Americans are significantly more likely than young white Americans to say President Obama has overseen the most transparent administration in history by a margin of 54 to 34 percent (assuming a 10 point margin of error barely coalesces responses).

Among young nonwhite Americans, 44 percent believe Obama has improved upon Bush's foreign policy handling compared to 26 percent of young white Americans.

A larger difference in perception emerges among young nonwhite Americans comparing general approval with Obama as president and his handling of foreign policy specifically. When asked about the president's handling of foreign policy, young nonwhite Americans' disapproval doubles that of general job performance (rising from 25 to 39 percent). In contrast, disapproval increases relatively less among young white Americans, rising from 52 percent (general job performance) to 58 percent (foreign policy handling).

Conclusion

These data indicate that the president is losing support among young Americans. However, recent controversies and foreign policy crises have had a differential impact among young nonwhite and white Americans in how they perceive President Obama. The President has lost support faster among young white Americans than nonwhite Americans. However, young nonwhite Americans were significantly more likely to disapprove of Obama's specific handling of foreign policy than they were his general job performance overall. While not all young people may agree with the administration's policies, many view the President as a symbol of positive change in the country—an indicator of greater inclusivity in politics and in society more generally.

Critics of the president would be wise to recognize that many young people may perceive critiques of the administration's policies as resistance or opposition to societal improvement. Therefore, critics should be careful they are clear that their disagreement is with policy not progress.

Obama Defies Congress And Keeps Immigration Position They Eliminated

Posted on September 19, 2013 by Dave Jolly filed under Congress, Crime, Email Featured, Ethics, Immigration, Politics

If you are keeping a list of impeachable charges against Barack Hussein Obama, you may want to add this one to the list.  Congress passed a bill and Obama signed it into law.  Then Obama defies the law he just signed.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has had a position of public advocate that works on behalf of illegal aliens facing deportation.  In February 2012, Andrew Lorenzen-Strait held that position.  Earlier this year, Congress passed HR 933 that eliminated Strait's position saying they no longer wanted to pay a federal employee to defend illegals.  In March 2013, President Obama signed HR 933 which defunded and eliminated the position of public advocate for illegals.

But you know how Obama feels about illegals facing deportation don't you?  They are Democratic voters, even if they do vote illegally.  He can't have the government deporting his party's support base.

In a defiance against Congress and the law that he signed, Obama had the position held by Strait changed to read deputy assistant director of custody programs and community outreach.  The job description is basically the same as that of the public advocate and Strait continues to perform the same duties he did before, mostly defending illegals facing deportation.

Ira Mehlman, Media Director for Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) is pointing the finger at Obama for openly ignoring and defying Congress, saying:

"Congress had said [it wasn't] going to pay for somebody in the federal bureaucracy to serve as an advocate for the illegal aliens. Then the administration said, We'll just retitle the position, essentially leave the same job description, and go ahead and do this anyway."

"So far they have not run into any serious resistance from Congress – and so they keep doing it."

"This is really evidence of the fact that even if we pass a bill that includes strong enforcement provisions – which the Senate bill does not; but even if the House were to put [such provisions] in there, there is no guarantee whatever that the administration would actually carry them out."

Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) drafted much of the language of HR-933.  She says that Obama's actions concerning the renaming and keeping of the position of public advocate is an example of his abuse of power.  She said his actions only help to undermine his credibility with Congress and the American people.  Personally, he lost all credibility when he ran for President back in 2008 when nothing but lies poured out from his mouth.

President Obama only obeys the laws when they suit his need.  When they don't, he has no qualms about disregarding the law as he has never believed that they pertain to him.  He believes that as president he can pick and choose what laws he wants to uphold and what ones he doesn't, much like the way many Christian's treat God's laws as contained in the Bible.

Never in the history of the United States has there ever been a more corrupt and lawless president as Barack Hussein Obama.  Sadly, Congress is just as guilty for allowing him to get away with it.
