Obama's civilian army and secret police: DHS Protective Security Service

by Dr. Eowyn

Do you remember then-presidential candidate Obama, in a speech in Colorado on July 2, 2008, calling for a "civilian national security force" just as "powerful" and "well-funded" as the military?

On June 30, 2010, the POS was at it again. Speaking at a town hall meeting, Obama declared that the military was "overburdened' by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He then resurrected his 2008 campaign idea and proposed to build a "civilian expeditionary force" that's as large as the military, without however giving the legal basis for this "civilian expeditionary force" nor how he intends to pay for another military-sized institution when the more than $700 billion annual military budget was already choking the federal government's budget.

Now we're finding out more about the POS's "civilian force."

FPSInfowar's Paul Joseph Watson alerts us to an Oct. 10, 2013 solicitation posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website for contractors to supply armed Protective Security Officers (PSO) for a hitherto unknown unit of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) called the Federal Protective Service.

As described by the solicitation (no. HSHQE2-14-R-00001):

The Federal Protective Service (FPS) is the Federal Law Enforcement and Security Organization responsible for the Protection and Security of Federal Buildings, Property, and Personnel across the Nation. The FPS operations focus on Law Enforcement and reduction of Federal Facility vulnerabilities to criminal and terrorist threats as well as accidental and natural hazards, while ensuring that Public Facilities are safe, secure, and remain available as a vital part of everyday American life. FPS currently performs all necessary Security and Law Enforcement functions at nearly 9,000 federally owned and leased locations throughout the United States and its territories.

A PSO [Protective Security Officer]  is the equivalent of an Armed Guard II as set forth in the Department of Labor (DOL) Directory of Occupations.

This particular solicitation is for contractors ("Small Business Sources") capable of providing Protective Security Officers (PSO) Services throughout Upstate New York.

The Contractor will be required to provide and maintain all management, supervision, manpower, training, equipment, supplies, licenses, permits, certificates, insurance, pre-employment screenings, reports, files and any other resources necessary to accomplish the security services. PSOs will be required to be armed and some posts may require screening of visitors using x-rays/magnetometers.

The solicitation states that "The estimated value of this Contract is between $75M and $80M."

Protective Security OfficersNow we know what all those hollow-point bullets purchased by DHS are for.

Paul Joseph Watson informs us that there have been at least two past instances when the FPS goons were deployed:

  • For a controversial drill last year dubbed "Operation Shield," during which FPS agents armed with semiautomatic guns were posted outside a Social Security office in Florida.
  • Earlier this year, Federal Protective Service officers were hired to guard an IRS building in St. Louis during a Tea Party protest against the IRS's discriminatory targeting of conservative groups.

But the FPS goons are not just to provide armed security to federal buildings; they also spy on Americans deemed by President Lucifer to be "anti-government."

In 2011, the DHS asserted that it had every right to spy on peaceful protest groups and had been using Federal Protective Service (FPS) agents to do so since at least 2006. In March, Arkansas State Fusion Center Director Richard Davis admitted that the DHS spies on "groups that are anti-government," especially "domestic" terrorists. Davis said the people whom "We want to kind of take a look at" include people "putting political stickers in public bathrooms or participating in movements against the death penalty."

Recall that a 2009 DHS secret memo and a more recent 2012 report identify Americans who love liberty, are "fiercely nationalistic," "anti-global," pro-life, pro-Second Amendment gun rights, Christian, and military veterans, to be "domestic terrorists."

In effect, the DHS "Protective Security Officers" not only are Obama's civilian army, they are also his secret police.

Fwd: Anti Chrisian Army Training

Finally a little bit of sanity is soaking through.

R N

New Docs Raise Questions About Timing of Order to Suspend Anti-Christian Army Training Materials

After Breitbart News reported on Thursday an official Department of Defense (DOD) document approved the anti-Christian Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as a trustworthy source for information on dangerous "extremist" organizations and movements, Fox News released a letter dated Oct. 18 from Secretary of the Army John M. McHugh. He begins his letter noting a string of anti-Christian presentations and says the material is "inaccurate, objectionable and otherwise inconsistent with current Army policy."

McHugh criticized SPLC for labeling Christian ministries, public-interest groups, and other conservative organizations as extremists, adding the "groups identified in the instruction were not 'extremist' organizations as that term is defined in Army Regulation 600-20."
The DOD document revealed on Thursday confirmed suspicions as to why multiple military trainers nationwide have cited traditional Christian and Tea Party groups as dangerous, and forbids military service members from supporting them or participating in their events. This official document was issued by DOD's Defense Equal Opportunity Military Institute (DEOMI).
Now Breitbart News has exclusively obtained two additional unclassified military documents that raise additional questions. The first is a redacted letter signed Oct. 17—one day before McHugh's letter—referencing a new "stand down" order from an Army general at Forscom (U.S. Army Forces Command), saying that "FORSCOM has directed all Equal Opportunity (EO) training be suspended until" military trainers have received updated training to change what they are currently presenting in their briefings. So an Army general in charge of military training on extremists and dangerous movements had already issued an order before McHugh.

Breitbart News has also exclusively obtained yet another letter, this one dated Oct. 23, which makes clearer what the redacted Oct. 17 letter contained. This letter is issued by Lt. Gen. Jeffrey W. Talley—commanding general of the U.S. Army Reserve Command. This letter states:

Commanders at all levels … are personally responsible for ensuring that EO [Equal Opportunity] Training is consistent with [Army] policy and command needs. Identifying and obtaining references and training material are key elements in conducting effective EO training. Commanders must ensure that EO briefings are vetted with the appropriate subject matter experts prior to presentation. Effective immediately, all unit EO training, to include EO Leader Course (EOLC) training is suspended.

The letters use similar formats and the same key terms, so it is a reasonable assumption that their substance is also similar. If so, an Army commander issuing the Oct. 17 letter a single day before McHugh sent his Oct. 18 letter raises two possibilities.

McHugh was a center-right Republican congressman from New York (not a Tea Party person, but not a committed moderate, either) when President Barack Obama appointed him Secretary of the Army. One possibility is that the Oct. 17 letter made him aware of this very serious problem: that the Pentagon was officially approving material from a radical anti-Christian organization that has been linked to domestic terrorism. McHugh may have decided to elevate the "stand down" order to his level, issuing a directive to the entire Army to stop using this material until a full review could be conducted. In other words, his Oct. 18 letter could mean McHugh did the right thing for the right reasons.
Retired Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin—former commanding general of U.S. Army Special Operations Command and now executive vice president of the Family Research Council—is giving McHugh the benefit of the doubt, telling Breitbart News:

The letter of 17 Oct. demonstrates that the Army sees the problem of persecution of Christians. The letter from the SecArmy on 18 Oct. shows that the Army is doing something about it. I am encouraged but we have a long way to go.

The other possibility is when McHugh saw the general's letter, he had the political sense to know that the news media would eventually get a copy (as Breitbart News now has), and that it would be a damaging political scandal for the Obama administration to have proof that this administration is in fact using anti-Christian propaganda as training material for American soldiers. The way to head off that scandal was to immediately issue his own letter to supersede and overshadow the Oct. 17 letter, making it look like the Obama administration was proactively looking for a solution to avoid being blamed as the source of the problem.
It would be pure speculation at this point to guess which one of these possibilities explains the Oct. 18 letter, but one thing that is not speculative is that McHugh's letter amounts to the Army's admission that the military has in fact been using anti-Christian indoctrination material in training our soldiers about threats to the nation.
Congress should investigate who knew what and when, as well as why McHugh issued his letter on Oct. 18. Additionally, DEOMI materials can be used by all the branches of the military, and the Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps might still be using anti-Christian material and are outside McHugh's jurisdiction to prevent them from doing so. As such, Congress should also ask Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel about this and demand to know why Hagel has not reissued McHugh's order under his own name to ensure that no one in the U.S. military is using the SPLC's anti-Christian material.

Fwd: The Empire is Striking Back

It took a tea-party insurrection that disabled the federal government and wrecked the Republican brand, but after months of handwringing, establishment Republicans are preparing to attack ultraconservative ideologues across red America.

From Alabama to Alaska, the center-right, business-oriented wing of the Republican Party is gearing up for a series of skirmishes that it hopes can prevent the 2014 midterm election from turning into another missed opportunity. This will not be a coordinated operation. It will be messy, ugly, and prone to backfiring. And if the comeback succeeds, it will be in fits and starts, most likely culminating in the selection of a presidential nominee in 2016.

"Hopefully we'll go into eight to 10 races and beat the snot out of them," said former Rep. Steve LaTourette of Ohio, whose new political group, Defending Main Street, aims to raise $8 million to fend off tea-party challenges against more mainstream Republican incumbents. "We're going to be very aggressive and we're going to get in their faces."

The caterwauling over the GOP brand ramped up after President Obama's reelection and a handful of setbacks in the Senate before hitting full screech as the country hurtled toward default. For some Republicans, the time for soul-searching is over. "This is a battle we have to fight," said GOP consultant John Feehery, who has advised top Republican leaders on Capitol Hill. "We can't just lie down and let this happen."

Tactics being discussed among Republican strategists, donors, and party leaders include running attack ads against tea-party candidates for Congress; overthrowing Ron Paul's libertarian acolytes dominating the Iowa and Minnesota state parties; promoting open primaries over nominating conventions, which can produce Republican hard-liners such as Virginia gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli and shutdown-instigator Mike Lee of Utah; and countering political juggernauts Heritage Action, the Club for Growth, and FreedomWorks that target Republican incumbents who have consorted with Democrats.

LaTourette's Defending Main Street group has identified its first project: defending Rep. Mike Simpson of Idaho. The Club for Growth threw its support to a tea-party challenger, Bryan Smith, because Simpson backed the $700 million Wall Street bailout, raising the debt ceiling, and a budget deal that staved off the fiscal cliff.

Defending Main Street also is keeping an eye on other House Republicans who have drawn the wrath of the Club for Growth, including Aaron Schock and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, who is running for the Senate.

But there are many more races drawing the attention of Republican insiders who fear the tea party—and the public's growing distaste for the movement—is jeopardizing GOP control of the House and a potential Senate takeover. Consider:

  • A Nov. 5 special congressional election in Alabama, where former state Sen. Bradley Byrne is competing in the Republican runoff primary against Dean Young, a tea-party candidate who declared at a candidate forum, "We are witnessing the end of a Western Christian empire."
  • A crowded Republican primary field facing a top Democratic recruit, Michelle Nunn, for an open Senate seat in Georgia. One GOP operative described two of the candidates, Reps. Paul Broun and Phil Gingrey, as "ticking time bombs." Broun has condemned the theory of evolution, questioned President Obama's citizenship and religion, and advocated abolishing the Federal Reserve and returning to the gold standard. Gingrey defended former Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin, who said victims of "legitimate rape" could avoid pregnancy.
  • A Republican primary in the open Senate race in South Dakota pitting challengers from the right against former Gov. Mike Rounds. The front-running candidate has piqued conservatives by refusing to sign a no-new-taxes pledge.
  • A Republican Senate primary in Alaska that features two establishment figures, Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell and former Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Dan Sullivan, against Joe Miller, a tea-party firebrand with high unfavorable ratings after a 2010 defeat.

Along with LaTourette's group, another player in the battle for control of the Republican Party will be the Conservative Victory Project, an arm of the Crossroads super PAC founded by Republican strategist Karl Rove. The group plans to vet GOP primary candidates with the goal of sending the most viable conservative to the general election.

"We want to avoid situations like 2010 with (Delaware Republican nominee) Christine O'Donnell, where a candidate gains momentum and the skeletons come out after the primary," said Crossroads spokesman Jonathan Collegio. "If skeletons exist, we'll make every effort to make sure they're known to every group that spends money long before the primary."

The business community is potentially a major ally in the Republican establishment's comeback plan. After long fueling Republican campaigns, corporate leaders were stunned that a wing of the party would refuse to fund the government and again risk national default in the hope of moving an immovable object, namely Obama's health care law.

"We expect politicians to conduct themselves in such a way that respects the rule of law and the process by which our forefathers constructed this republic," said Greg Casey, president of a nationwide coalition of business groups called BIPAC. Like other business leaders and prominent Republicans, Casey was reluctant to identify specific targets for fear of antagonizing the conservative grassroots.

"They are going to see a business community interested in results and policy, and they have to decide whether that's to be feared or embraced," he said.

Because efforts to roll the tea party typically provoke activists to roar back stronger than ever, the old guard is stumped in some instances. Ideally, the establishment would figure out a way to channel the movement's passion into electoral victories in 2014 and 2016. But how do you control Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, the Republican ringleader of the shutdown, who may not count enough friends on Capitol Hill to rename a post office but whose real power comes from outside Washington? How do you influence House Republicans when gerrymandering leaves them with little to fear?

"This conflict could be the new normal," warned Rob Jesmer, former executive director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. "Until we have a nominee people can rally around in 2016, I think we're going to be the wilderness for a while."

The latest round of polling offered evidence of this exile: 64 percent of Americans had an unfavorable view of the Republican Party in a new CNN/ORC International poll. The party's image also sunk to an all-time low in the latest Washington Post/ABC News survey.

The damage to the party is obvious in the Virginia governor's race, where two weeks before the election, Republicans are already writing off Cuccinelli, their tea-party-backed nominee. As he lags behind Democrat Terry McAuliffe in the polls, Republicans are condemning the state party for choosing its nominee at a convention dominated by conservative activists instead of in a regular primary. The decision prompted Lt Gov. Bill Bolling, who has strong ties to the business community, to drop out of the race.

The second-guessing over the convention and the party's agenda is expected to dominate a traditional gathering of Republican elected officials in December and the elections for local party chairs in the spring.

"The convention left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths and we're not going to see that again," predicted Shaun Kenney, a former spokesman for the Virginia GOP who runs a conservative web site. "It's going to be like divorce court."

This article appears in the October 26, 2013, edition of National Journal Magazine as The Empire Strikes Back.

Fwd: Those New, Gentler Iranians Are Busy Hanging, Stoning, and Biting Their People

Those New, Gentler Iranians Are Busy Hanging, Stoning, and Biting Their People

Posted By Michael Ledeen On October 27, 2013

You probably missed the news that four women were recently stoned to death in the country President Obama loves to flatter by calling it the Islamic Republic of Iran.  Their bodies showed up [1] in the Tehran morgue mid-month.  So far as I have read, no one has claimed the cadavers.

You may also have missed the big roundup of homosexuals and devil-worshippers [2] in Kermanshah Province.  Regime media reported with horror that eight of the gays were married.

And then there was the mass arrests [3] of a hundred Kurds in Tehran.  Why Kurds?  The answer:  there's a real war on in the region, and the Kurds are in the middle.  Kurds in Turkey are fighting for autonomy against the Erdogan crowd.  Kurds in Iraq have carved out a great degree of independence from Baghdad, and are profitably engaged in cross-border commerce with the Iranian Kurds, who are helping the Turkish Kurds…who are helping the Syrian Kurds, who have established control over significant areas of the north, and who just grabbed one of the two principal border crossings [4] into Iraq.  The Tehran regime is fighting Kurds in the area near Turkey, and the arrests are probably part of that campaign.

Don't think this region is easily sorted out.  You have to pay attention all the time.

Meanwhile, the regime continues its vicious campaign [5] (some would call it a genocidal war) against the country's Arabs, the Ahwazis.  Not only are they afflicted with intense air and water pollution (although Ahwaz City is rated the most polluted [6] on earth, it's part of a national pattern;  Iran holds four of the "top" ten [7] positions in the "world's-most-polluted-cities" competition), but they are under brutal repression.  It seems to have increased [5] after Rouhani's election in June.  Indeed, repression is worse all over the country;  150 have been (officially) executed [8] since the Great Moderate won office.

If you only read the MSM headlines, you'd likely believe that the Rouhani administration had greatly eased up on political repression.  There were early reports that eighty political prisoners had been released, but there are no names, and no sightings.  One student activist was temporarily let out on bail, to the great and justified delight of those in the West who campaigned for him, but he can be arrested at any time, and sure doesn't look like he wants to take on Rouhani.

For those who continue to maintain the fiction of a kinder, gentler Iran, consider that the judicial authorities have declared an end [9] to any "further" releases.

There was also a lot of talk about the possible release of the country's most famous political prisoners:  Mir Hossein Mousavi, who won the presidential elections four years ago and, along with his firebrand wife and political sidekick Mehdi Karroubi, has been illegally held under house arrest since early 2010, never charged with a crime, and in steadily worsening health.

The judiciary made it clear that the ban on the release of political prisoners includes the Mousavis and Karroubi:

In a press conference yesterday, the Iranian judiciary's spokesperson, Mohsen Ejei, announced that more political prisoners would not be released on the upcoming religious holidays and said that former President Mohammad Khatami's travel ban is still in place.

Based on statements by the intelligence and justice ministers, Iranian media had expected the release of some high profile political prisoners, particularly those arrested after the 2009 election protests, especially 2009 presidential candidates Mehdi Karroubi, Mir Hussein Moussavi and his wife, Zahra Rahnavard, who have been under house arrest without charge since February 2011. Ejei, however, denied these claims.

Mousavi's two daughters visited recently, and you can judge from the first-hand account [10] of one of the women whether the new leadership is improving human rights in Iran.  They were held for hours in a guard house, and searched.  At a certain point, they were ordered by one of the female guards to remove all their clothes, underwear and all.

To try and describe her treatment of us defies basic human decency. After refusing to take off our underclothes, she attacked us and smacked both my sister Zahra and myself in the ear with a great deal of force.  As I was trying to grab her hand to keep her from attacking us any further, she stopped acting like a human being and bit my entire wrist like a wild animal.

The post includes a photograph of the bite marks.

In short, it's ugly business as usual, and if there is any change in the regime's treatment of its own citizens, it's worse than before.  Indeed, in some areas, any pretense of judicial propriety has been summarily dismissed.  A couple of days ago, there was an attack against Iranian soldiers in Balochistan–14 killed–and 16 suspects were simply rounded up and hanged [11].

What, if anything, does this have to do with the regime's oft-stated winks and leers, promising a "new" relationship with the West, especially with the United States?  You might wonder if the increased repression is being imposed in the anticipation of a deal, and the regime leaders want to make sure that their many domestic opponents aren't tempted to rise up against a regime that has shown weakness in its dealings with the West.

That's possible, but not likely.  It flies in the face of what we know about the regime leaders' reading of Obama.  They don't think they have anything to fear from him, and they expect he will accept a deal favorable to them.  They expect an immediate easing of sanctions, "in exchange" for promises of good Iranian behavior in the future.  They will have been reassured at the recent spectacle of the White House asking Congress not to vote any new sanctions.  This demonstrates a lack of understanding, since a vigorous Congress enables our negotiators to tell the Iranians "you'd better get serious and shut down the nuclear program, or these crazy people will just pile on."

Instead, the Iranians are playing that card, telling us "you'd better get serious and give something tangible to Rouhani, or the crazy hard-liners will make everything more dangerous."

There's a difference between us, after all.  Obama wants a deal.  The Iranians want us dead or dominated.  They want to treat us the same way they treat their own.

Fwd: Obama Should Be Impeached. for Cluelessness

Obama Should Be Impeached… for Cluelessness

Posted By Roger L Simon On October 27, 2013

When I read Sunday evening in the Wall Street Journal that Barack Obama was "unaware" [1] until last summer that the U. S. spied on thirty-five world leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, I was frankly stupefied. (Well, maybe not entirely stupefied, but at least semi-stunned.)

No wonder Obamacare and practically everything else from foreign policy to energy policy is an unmitigated mess. This president and his administration have taken hands-off leadership and leading from behind to unprecedented levels.

What exactly does our president do for a living? What're we paying him for?

Either the administration officials who leaked this information to the WSJ are lying or Barack Obama should be impeached.

Forget "high crimes and misdemeanors." For those you have to do something and be conscious. Barack Obama should be impeached for cluelessness.

He was in the White House for an entire term and many months more without knowing what his biggest intelligence agency was doing to thirty-five of the most important people on Earth? Chance the Gardener from Jerzy Kosinki's Being There [2] lives — and he lives on Pennsylvania Avenue at our expense. It's not fiction anymore. (Well, there is one difference. Chance was kind of sweet and passive while Obama is vindictive.)

From the WSJ:

The National Security Agency ended a program used to spy on German Chancellor Angela Merkel and a number of other world leaders after an internal Obama administration review started this summer revealed to the White House the existence of the operations, U.S. officials said.

Officials said the internal review turned up NSA monitoring of some 35 world leaders, in the U.S. government's first public acknowledgment that the U.S. government tapped the phones of world leaders. European leaders have joined international outrage over revelations of U.S. surveillance of Ms. Merkel's phone and of NSA's monitoring of telephone call data in France.

The White House cut off some monitoring programs after learning of them, including the one tracking Ms. Merkel and some other world leaders, a senior U.S. official said. Other programs have been slated for termination but haven't been phased out completely yet, officials said.

The account suggests President Barack Obama went nearly five years without knowing his own spies were bugging the phones of world leaders. Officials said the NSA has so many eavesdropping operations under way that it wouldn't have been practical to brief him on all of them.

[itals mine]

Not practical to brief him on spying on Angela Merkel, et al? Do you believe that? If it's true, it's worse. The president is so incurious he might as well be playing golf all the time.

If there is one investigative journalist left in Washington, D.C. who is not a court eunuch for this abysmal administration, he or she should be jumping on that last line immediately. What we will soon have before us is a circular firing squad of historic proportions as the administration attempts to blame a rogue intelligence agency for the decline of America's world reputation and vice versa.

This isn't funny. It's quite horrifying and depressing. What we are witnessing is the disintegration of our country under the governance of an absolutely incompetent president and administration.

Beyond that hopeless administration, however, is the larger question of what to do about the NSA and its mammoth spy capabilities. This is no simple question, considering the reality of murderous Islamic terrorism is still very much with us, perhaps even growing.

It's no easy task, but all of this will have to be worked out and rationalized so that private citizens can feel as if they are indeed private citizens — and our allies can again feel as if they are our allies.

Toward that end, according to the same WSJ report, a government review in underway. As with most of these reviews, the committee consists of familiar names who can be relied upon not to rock boats and to protect the president:

Its members include Richard Clarke, who was a counterterrorism chief for former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush ; former Central Intelligence Agency Deputy Director Michael Morell ; University of Chicago Law School professor Geoffrey Stone ; former White House regulatory official Cass Sunstein ; and former Clinton and Obama administration economic and privacy official Peter Swire.

Speaking of the president, and also in the WSJ, according to a spokesperson, "a report in the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag reporting Mr. Obama personally authorized the tapping of Ms. Merkel in 2010, and was briefed on it by Gen. Alexander, was false."

Well then, I say, impeach him for cluelessness.
