Scandal Staining Hillary's Record | RealClearPolitics

Scandal Staining Hillary's Record

In September 1995, then-first lady Hillary Clinton spoke on human rights for women and girls, detailing in a speech in China a shocking list of abuses around the world.

"It is time for us to say here in Beijing ... that it is no longer acceptable to discuss women's rights as separate from human rights," she said at the Fourth World Conference on Women. She even criticized the host country for limiting discussions of women's issues.

Clinton talked, in devastating detail, about violations committed globally. She spoke against selling women and girls into slavery or prostitution, or raping them as a terror tactic or prize of war.

Clinton has used the rights of women and girls as the cornerstone of her career since graduating from law school and working as an attorney for the Children's Defense Fund. She continued to do so as first lady, as a U.S. senator, as secretary of State. Last week, she did it again, as a Clinton Global Initiative advocate.

How jarring, then, for allegations to emerge of top State Department officials under Clinton concealing abuses of women and children by U.S. diplomatic staff.

A State Department whistleblower has accused high-level officials of a vast cover-up that included squelching investigative findings that members of then-Secretary Clinton's security detail — as well as the U.S. ambassador to Belgium — solicited prostitutes.

CBS News reporter John Miller uncovered a State Department inspector general's memo alleging that several investigations were influenced, manipulated or simply called off by those officials.

The memo detailed at least one example of a 2011 investigation of U.S. Ambassador Howard Gutman, who "routinely ditched ... his protective security detail." Inspectors suspect he did so to solicit sexual favors from prostitutes, including children.

CBS reported that, after those allegations surfaced, Gutman was recalled from Belgium to meet with Undersecretary of State for Management Patrick Kennedy, then permitted to return to his post.

CBS cited eight additional examples of improprieties, including allegations that a State Department security official in Beirut "engaged in sexual assaults" on foreign nationals hired as embassy guards and that Clinton's security detail "engaged prostitutes while on official trips in foreign countries," which the report called an "endemic" practice.

Most important, the memos revealed that State's diplomatic security bureau under Clinton had ordered the inspector general's office to stop investigating the case.

And then, out of the blue, in this administration's typical fashion, President Obama announced his intention to nominate Denise Bauer as ambassador to Belgium.

That Friday-evening "news dump" largely avoided the attention of a press corps and a nation stunned by the seemingly endless scandals suddenly attached to the Obama White House.

It contained no mention of what happened to Gutman — a big campaign-finance bundler for both Obama and Clinton — who stood accused of engaging in out-of-control sexual escapades with women and minor children, other than to say he was being replaced, conveniently, by a woman.

That was bad enough. But one other thing should disturb any observer: Here was Clinton, the self-proclaimed champion of women and children, apparently standing by as women and children were abused by people who worked for her — and the only proactive step of her trusted staff was to cover it all up.

Clinton spokesman Nicholas Merrill told CNN that Clinton was unaware of the investigations until learning about them from media reports and doesn't know anything about them beyond what the media reported.

If Clinton is to continue to promote herself as a protector of women and children, she should get in front of this scandal and demand that Congress get to the bottom of it.

A true champion of women and children should not have this stain on her record; like a splattering of blood-red berries on a white-linen tablecloth, it will serve as a constant reminder that she did not speak for those who had no voice.

By not expressing outrage over a cover-up within her own ranks, she shirks responsibility and damages any level of trust that people might have in her as an effective leader.

If she cannot stand up for those for whom she takes bows onstage following lofty speeches, then just whom does she stand for — other than herself?

DO NOT EAT TILAPIA OR OTHER FROZEN (OR CANNED) FISH FROM CHINA.

I read several articles on Google about this, and even one that was defending the eating of tilapia said to avoid the fish that came from China. Also, I had just returned home from buying Publix & Albertson's 4-day special of 4 bags of frozen tilapia for the price of one. Sure enough, on the top of the bags, it read "farm raised", and on the bottom ...in small print it said, "China".

I recently saw a food inspector on TV... He said he had lived overseas and he had seen the filthy conditions their foods are raised and processed in.
It is enough to make you throw up.

Some foreign workers have to wear masks as they work in these places, because the food is so rotten and filthy, it makes them want to throw up. Many of their fish on fish farms are fed raw sewage daily. He said he has seen so much filth throughout their food growing and processing that he would "never" eat any of it. They raise this filth, put some food colouring and some flavourings on it, then they ship it to the USA for YOU to consume and feed to YOUR families. They have no Food & Safety Inspectors. They ship it to you to buy and poison your families and friends. Imported food we eat and the junk we buy...
Green Giant frozen vegetables are from China, and so are most of Europe's Best.Arctic Gardens are Okay. So is Birdseye.

Never buy the grocery store garlic unless it is clearly marked from USA or Canada, the other stuff is grown in people poop (even worse than chicken poop). China is the largest producer of garlic in the world U.S. is next.

Buy only local honey, much honey is shipped in huge containers from China and re-packed here.

Cold-FX is grown and packed in China and is full of faecal bacteria. Doesn't work anyway, big scam.

If the country of origin is not clearly marked beware. If produce, ask an employee.

Watch out for packages which state "prepared for", "packed by" or "imported by".

I don't understand the lack of mandatory labelling, especially the produce. The country of origin should be clearly shown on the item in the store. I go to the local farmers' markets in season and keep a wary eye open the rest of the year.

Please read this very carefully, and read to the very bottom. It's important for all of us.

How is it possible to ship food from China cheaper than having it produced in the U.S. or Canada?

FOR EXAMPLE
THE "OUR FAMILY" BRAND OF MANDARIN ORANGES SAYS RIGHT ON THE CAN 'FROM
CHINA'. SO, FOR A FEW MORE CENTS, BUY THE LIBERTY BRAND. GOLD BRAND OR THE DOLE IS FROM CALIFORNIA Beware,
Costco sells canned peaches and pears in a plastic jar that come from China.

ALL "HIGH LINER" AND MOST OTHER FROZEN FISH PRODUCTS COME FROM CHINA OR INDONESIA. THE PACKAGE MAY SAY "PACIFIC SALMON" ON THE FRONT, BUT LOOK FOR THE SMALL PRINT. MOST OF THESE PRODUCTS COME FROM FISH FARMS IN THE ORIENT WHERE THERE ARE NO REGULATIONS ON WHAT IS FED TO THESE FISH.

Recently, The Montreal Gazette had an article by the Canadian Government on how Chinese feed the fish: They suspend chicken wire crates over the fish ponds, and the fish feed on chicken s--t.

If you search the Internet about what the Chinese feed their fish, you'll be alarmed; e.g., growth hormones, expired anti-biotic from humans.

Never buy any type of fish or shellfish that comes from these countries:
Vietnam,
China,
Philippines
Indonesia.

Check this out personally. I did.

Steinfeld's Pickles are made in India - just as bad!

Another example is in canned mushrooms. No-Name brand came from Indonesia.

Also check those little fruit cups. They used to be made in Canada in the Niagara region until about 2 years ago. They are now packaged in China !

While the Chinese export inferior and even toxic products, dangerous toys, and goods to be sold in North American markets, the media wrings its hands!
Yet, 70% of North Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended!

Well, duh! Why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges?

SIMPLY DO IT YOURSELF, CANADA AND THE U.S.

Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says 'Made in China' or 'PRC' (and that now includes Hong Kong ), simply choose another product, or none at all.

You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do without.

THINK ABOUT THIS:

If 200 million North Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that's a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favour... fast! The downside? Some Canadian/American businesses will feel a temporary pinch from having foreign stockpiles of inventory.

Just one month of trading losses will hit the Chinese for 8% of their North American exports. Then they will at least have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness are worth it.

START NOW and don't stop.
Let's show them that we are intelligent, and NOBODY can take us for granted.

Fwd: Budget ax may fall on fed pensions

Budget ax may fall on fed pensions

By Erik Wasson

Federal workers look like they could be the big losers if House and Senate budget conferees reach a deal.

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) are working behind closed doors to reach a deal that would replace some of the automatic spending cuts known as the sequester with other reductions.

They are believed to be looking at hiking federal worker employee retirement contributions, which would effectively lower federal pay. The savings would be used to prevent sequester cuts to the Pentagon and non-defense discretionary spending.

Unions representing workers are worried about the cuts already on the table.

"This is a crunch time and crisis time for federal employees," said J. David Cox. the president of the AFL-CIO's American Federation of Government Employees, on Monday. "We are prepared to stand up against anyone who is prepared to come back to the same well again."

The fact that Senate Democrats and House Republicans are leading the conference could put federal workers at a disadvantage.

Their strongest political power base is House Democrats, who are close to the unions that represent federal workers. That means their key protectors include House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and House Budget Committee ranking member Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), who is a budget conferee.

Yet Van Hollen could find himself on the outside looking in if Murray and Ryan — representing Senate Democrats and House Republicans — make a deal.

Van Hollen said Monday that he finds any deal focusing on federal workers unfair.

"This is no time to ask them to shoulder even more of the burden, especially when House Republicans refuse to close a single corporate tax loophole as part of that effort," said Van Hollen, who added that Murray is keeping him in the loop on the talks.

Sources say Ryan and Murray are focused on "low-hanging fruit" from previous talks.

Both President Obama and Ryan included cuts to federal worker benefits in their budgets, making it an area where there is some agreement between the two parties.

Ryan and Murray are avoiding big-ticket items like raising tax rates or cutting Medicare and Medicaid benefits, areas where there is little agreement between Republicans and Democrats.

While Obama and Ryan have both targeted federal employees with their budgets, their numbers are different.

Obama's 2014 budget called for increasing current federal worker retirement contributions by 1.2 percent, which would save $20 billion over 10 years.

Ryan proposed increasing contributions by 5.5 percent, saving $132 billion over 10 years.

Cox said that he personally made it clear to Obama that it is unacceptable to require federal workers to contribute more to their retirements.

"We are drawing a line in the sand," Cox said.

A letter issued Thursday by 40 House Democrats highlighted the worries of members representing federal workers.

The letter to budget conferees, which was led by Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.) and Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), noted that workers have been operating under a three-year pay freeze.

The letter also noted that federal workers have already seen their pay cut through furloughs this year, and that new federal hires starting last January had to pay 2.3 percent more for retirement benefits.

That cut to benefits came as part of a 2012 deal that extended a payroll tax holiday for all workers temporarily. Unions point out that as part of other fiscal talks, Republicans have succeeded in keeping a pay freeze for federal workers in place for three years.

"Federal workers are a perennial punching bag," deficit hawk Bob Bixby of The Concord Coalition said on Monday. Bixby is advocating a grand bargain that tackles bigger items, including Medicare.

National Treasury Employees Union President Colleen Kelley said any cuts to retirement benefits would be unacceptable.

"If this were to occur, it would come atop all that federal employees have endured over the past three years and would amount to a serious pay cut and yet another assault on these dedicated public servants," she said Monday. "Reaching into the pockets of your employees over and over to fund shortfalls is a sure path to recruitment and retention problems."

Budget conferees, to be sure, are focused on other areas as well to try to find savings that could be used to offset the sequester cuts.

There is talk of claiming savings from cuts to the troubled Postal Service.

Fredric Rolando, president of the National Association of Letter Carriers, said Monday that postal reform must be out of any Ryan-Murray deal.

"The Postal Service has not received a dime from taxpayers since 1982 and does not contribute to the federal deficit. Mandating damaging service cuts at the Postal Service has no place in the budget deal," Rolando said.

Other low-hanging fruit has included increasing aviation fees, tapping wireless spectrum sales and finding savings from a deal on a new farm bill.

Federal workers could actually be double losers from a small deal.

Their retirement contributions could be targeted to turn off part of the sequester, leaving most of the automatic spending cuts in place.

That would risk further furloughs and possible layoffs.

Fwd: Obama FBI Partners with Left-Wing Extremist Group

Obama FBI Partners with Left-Wing Extremist Group

Written on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 by J. Matt Barber

The magnitude of this Obama administration's "progressive" radicalism becomes more evident with each passing day. In recent months, there has been a drastic spike in acts of both anti-Christian and anti-conservative discrimination and intimidation on military bases across the country. This mounting harassment is not being carried out at the hands of regular enlisted folk but, rather, at the hands of high-ranking officials who, in their official capacity, are targeting Christian and conservative organizations and individuals in an effort to silence them.

It has long been suspected that the Obama administration is using propaganda circulated by the roundly discredited Southern Poverty Law Center, or SPLC, a left-wing extremist group that, in recent years, has adopted two primary goals: 1) raising truckloads of money and 2) smearing as "domestic hate groups" dozens of mainstream Christian ministries like the Family Research Council, or FRC, and the American Family Association, or AFA.

This suspicion has now been verified.

The problem on military bases has gotten so bad, in fact, that the U.S. Congress is demanding answers from the Pentagon. Recently, the AFA-affiliated OneNewsNow.com newsgroup reported that "Congressman Alan Nunnelee (R-Mississippi) is 1 of 38 members of Congress signing off on a letter to the Secretary of the Army – especially about an incident last month at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, in which the Tupelo-based American Family Association was labeled in Army training material as a 'hate group.' The Army initially claimed it was an isolated incident.

"'But as we looked into it, [we found] this is not an isolated incident,' Nunnelee [told] OneNewsNow. 'There are a number of cases where the Army has singled out the American Family Association and other Christian organizations as hate groups, and service men and women have been threatened with sanctions if they support these groups."

After a tremendous public outcry – and in an embarrassing slap to the face of the SPLC – the Pentagon quickly backpedaled, later apologizing about the Camp Shelby incident and publicly admitting that, despite the SPLC's absurd claims to the contrary, the AFA is not a "hate group."

Still, rather than distancing itself from the anti-Christian SPLC as one might expect, the Obama administration has, instead, strengthened ties to the hard-left outfit. Even after this string of military scandals.

For instance, I recently learned that on its official website, the FBI lists as one of its primary "hate crimes resources," the Southern Poverty Law Center.

This is especially mysterious when you consider that the FBI's own verified hate crimes statistics are completely at odds with numbers put out by the SPLC in its fundraising propaganda. Whereas the FBI indicates that there was a sharp 24.3 percent decrease in hate crimes from 1996 to 2010, with racial hate crimes dropping by 41.9 percent, the SPLC incongruously claims that since 2000, the number of "hate groups" has somehow increased by 67.3 percent.

So send your money right away!

The FBI's empirical data doesn't track with the SPLC's political propaganda. Consequently, by partnering so closely with this discredited organization, the Department of Justice significantly undermines its own credibility.

Still, while the SPLC has proven utterly unreliable in its actuarial acumen – as well as intentionally dishonest – it has also proven demonstrably dangerous in its prolonged campaign of anti-Christian agitation.

You may recall that it was the Southern Poverty Law Center's somewhat clever, yet patently dishonest and reprehensible strategy of juxtaposing, as fellow "hate groups," mainstream Christian organizations like the FRC and the AFA alongside violent extremist groups like the Aryan Brotherhood and the Skin Heads that, on Aug. 15, 2012, led to an actual act of domestic terrorism.

On that date, "gay" activist Floyd Lee Corkins II – who later confessed in court that he was spurred-on by the SPLC's anti-Christian materials – entered the lobby of the Washington-based Family Research Council intending to kill every Christian within.

Corkins was armed with both a gun and a backpack full of ammunition. He also had 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches that he intended to rub in the faces of his would-be victims. (FRC had recently defended the food chain's COO Dan Cathy for pro-natural marriage statements he made.)

The only thing standing between Corkins and mass murder was FRC facilities manager and security specialist Leo Johnson. As Corkins shouted disapproval for FRC's "politics," he shot Johnson who, despite a severely wounded arm, managed to tackle Corkins and disarm him.

Of Johnson's actions, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said, "The security guard here is a hero, as far as I'm concerned."

I agree.

Upon hearing of Leo's selfless act of heroism, I was reminded of John 15:13: "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."

But according to both the SPLC and the FBI (by virtue of its close ties to the group), Leo's heart is, instead, full of hate. Everyone at FRC is hateful.

In fact, if you happen to be a Bible-believing Christian, you too are hateful.

You get the drill.

The Obama administration has absolutely no business partnering with this extremist organization – and it's an outrage that it does. If this troubles you as much as it does me, please contact the FBI at (202) 324-3000 and respectfully voice your concern. Then call or email your local FBI office. (Click here to find that location.) It's critical that freedom-loving Americans light-up the FBI's phone lines and demand that all facets of government completely disassociate from the SPLC and disavow any further use of its anti-Christian propaganda.

The Southern Poverty Law Center must be held accountable for its inflammatory and potentially deadly anti-Christian bigotry.

Terror-linked CAIR's message of thanks for Thanksgiving

by BareNakedIslam

CAIR thanks you in advance for your large or small monetary donation so they can continue their Islamic crusade against the U.S. Constitution, the American people, national security, and freedom of speech. The Treasury Department stripped CAIR of its tax exempt status a few years ago because of its terrorist connections, but Barack Hussein Obama […]

Good Morning -

Writing with a quick update, in follow up to yesterday's outreach, as we're delighted to announce a headline interview with U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker and Atlantic National Correspondent James Fallows as our keynote of next week's Small Business Forum.

Apologies for the extra message -- but didn't want to wait until after the holiday to share this exciting news.

Happy Thanksgiving, and do hope to see you next week.

All the best,

Spenser

P.S. Logistical details follow in my original message, and the quick link to RSVP is here: https://smallbizforum2013.eventbrite.com.

Subject: The Atlantic's Small Business Forum - Star Editor Bob Cohn and Tech Writer Megan Garber Now Confirmed

Good morning –

Before the holiday is upon us, I'm writing with a personal note of follow up on our invitation to you to attend The Atlantic's 2013 Small Business Forum on December 4.

With special thanks to underwriters Bank of AmericaUPSCertified Financial Planner Board of Standards, and Gallup, we'll be bringing the issues facing emerging and small businesses to life not just through policy discussions but also real-world assessments through Entrepreneur Case Studies.

There, successful entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to share their personal stories and advice with interviewers, including TheAtlantic.com's Editor Bob Cohn (@1bobcohn) and Megan Garber (@megangarber) of The Atlantic's Technology Channel.

And joining them on stage will be two tech leaders:

  • After serving in the U.S. military for over 20 years, Joseph Kopser co-founded RideScout, a free mobile app that offers users real-time information on local transportation options - from public to private, including BikeShare, Car2Go, and taxis. Find out how RideScout aggregates ride options on-demand by watching this short video.
  • Justin McLeod founded the mobile dating app, Hinge, in 2011 after graduating from HBS. Hinge taps a user's Facebook network to connect them with single friends and friends of friends, in the hopes that a romantic relationship sparks. This short video will teach you the ins and outs of online dating with Hinge.

To RSVP and learn more, you can visit The Atlantic's Small Business Forum and follow @Atlantic_LIVE and #SmallBiz for program updates and speaker news.

We hope you'll join us next week, and wish you a happy holiday in the interim.

Regards,

Spenser
