Fwd: [Hope4America] "I Refused To Let Detroit Go Bankrupt"

"I Refused To Let Detroit Go Bankrupt" - Barack Obama, October 2012

Tyler Durden's picture
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 07/18/2013 16:10 -0500

Just nine short months after proclaiming victory on his plan to save Detroit by throwing taxpayer money at the 'problem' of over-levered, over-unioned, and under-demanded auto manufacturers, it seems the ball is back in President Obama's court once again. He "refused to throw in the towel and do nothing. We refused to let Detroit go bankrupt. We bet on American workers and American ingenuity, and three years later, that bet is paying off in a big way."

Of course, what the rest of the unsuspecting US citizenry is likely unaware of yet is that once again the municipal workers' pension plans (that face 90% losses) will be bailed-out via the Pension Benefits Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) - A US Government (ponzi) Agency. But of course, that's for the good of the whole nation...

Fwd: Afraid of China, Cowardly Obama State Dept Undermines Two Centuries of U.S. Doctrine

Afraid of China, State Dept Undermines Two Centuries of U.S. Doctrine

Posted By Gordon G. Chang On December 3, 2013

On Monday, the State Department called on China to withdraw the rules it imposed when announcing its East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone. "The fact that China's announcement has caused confusion and increased the risk of accidents only further underscores the validity of concerns and the need for China to rescind the procedures," [1] said spokeswoman Jen Psaki at the department's daily press briefing.

Psaki's statement — a little too diplomatic given the circumstances — was a first step in undoing the harm the State Department caused on Friday when it advised U.S. carriers to comply with Beijing's demands [2] for its new zone.

Beijing established the air zone on November 23 without consulting other countries in the region, and it's not hard to see why. First, China's new ADIZ — air zones are known by these initials — includes the sovereign airspace of both Japan and South Korea. Worse, Beijing claims Japanese and South Korean territory under the zone as a part of the People's Republic. The establishment of the zone, therefore, has been seen as an attempt to wrest sovereignty from both Tokyo and Seoul.

Second, Beijing requires aircraft to file flight plans before entering its zone and remain in touch with Chinese authorities while in the zone even if such aircraft do not intend to enter China's sovereign airspace. Other countries, like the United States, do not have such expansive requirements for their ADIZs.

China's new zone was, therefore, an unprecedented act, arrogant, belligerent, and dangerous. The U.S. and others, therefore, have ignored Beijing's rules. On the Tuesday following the announcement of the zone, the Pentagon sent two B-52s, taking off from Guam, to fly through China's zone without complying with its rules. Since then, the U.S. has been making daily transits through the zone, and Japanese, South Korean, and Taiwanese military craft have been also making frequent flights there.

The State Department, when it advised American carriers to respect the zone, stated that its position "does not indicate U.S. government acceptance of China's requirements for operating in the newly declared ADIZ." That sounds fine as a technical legal matter, but the Chinese have used the compliance of American carriers to bolster the legitimacy of its zone [3]. "The submission of flight plans to the competent Chinese authorities by airlines of relevant countries including the US shows their constructive attitude and cooperative will in upholding aviation order and security in the airspace above the East China Sea together with China," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei on Monday. "We appreciate that."

Trust the State Department to walk into a Chinese-made trap, undoing the good work of the Pentagon. If there has been any consistent American foreign policy over the course of more than two centuries, it has been the defense of freedom of navigation. Having American planes submit to China's expansive rules undercuts that long-held — and essential — policy.

Tokyo has muscled Japanese carriers to not comply with China's rules, and nothing has happened to their planes. Nonetheless, no one would think of endangering American civilian craft by forcing them not to honor China's rules. What the State Department should have done, therefore, is to advise carriers to avoid the zone altogether — or even ordered them to do so.

Staying out of China's ADIZ is the safe thing to do. For more than a decade, China's air force has been engaged in dangerous flying, getting too close to planes of other countries.  There was the Hainan incident in 2001, when a reckless Chinese pilot clipped the wing of an unarmed Navy EP-3 reconnaissance plane, sending China's jet into the water and forcing the American plane to make a landing. And despite the uproar then, the situation has not improved. Vice President Biden, during a visit to Beijing in 2011, showed Chinese leaders photographs of their aircraft coming within 10 feet of American planes [4] in international airspace.

The State Department's tepid language is not only insufficient but also counterproductive.  The Chinese in recent years have not been responding to our friendly gestures.  They see them as signs of weakness and try to press their advantage.  Bad things happen when your adversary does not respect you.

China's new ADIZ, now contested airspace, is no place for American carriers. North Asia is getting dangerous. There are historic animosities going back centuries, countries are rapidly building up their militaries, political leaders emotionally want to fight, and military officers have not been tempered by the horror of combat.

On Friday, the Chinese Ministry of Defense said it scrambled jets in response to American and Japanese aircraft transiting China's ADIZ. Planes of competing nations are now maneuvering in the same airspace at the same time, and the Chinese are seeking to create a confrontation. The last thing the State Department should have done is encourage American carriers to enter such contested airspace.

Fwd: Sebelius: Obamacare to favor gays over straight people

So, okay, how small a step is it from this to discriminating against those in disfavor of a particular Administration?  Say, can ACA now be challenged on the basis of the Equal Protection Clause?

—S.

Sebelius: Obamacare to favor gays over straight people

On Monday, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that Obamacare will place a special focus on members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community because "for too long...[they] were pushed to the side," Paul Bedard reported at the Washington Examiner.

"LGBT individuals have faced limited access to health care and insurance. They have been less likely to get the preventive care they need to stay healthy, they have higher rates of tobacco use, and they are often at increased risk for mental health illness," she said.

To counter this, the administration is drawing attention to new benefits under Obamacare targeted to gays, Bedard said, and will add gender status to health surveys and questionnaires critical in determining services under Obamacare.

"Like all Americans, LGBT Americans deserve respectful health care providers and the security of accessible, affordable health care that meets their needs," Sebelius said.

The announcement coincides with Obama's proclamation of June as LGBT Pride Month.

"As we observe LGBT Pride Month, I am pleased to say that the Department of Health and Human Services continues working hard to make this a reality for the LGBT community," she added.

Bedard posted the key benefits gays and lesbians will receive under Obamacare, according to Sebelius:

  • "Insurers can no longer impose lifetime dollar limits on health insurance coverage, and annual limits will be phased out in 2014. This is particularly important for people with cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other chronic diseases requiring comprehensive, long-term care."
  • "Starting in 2014, insurers cannot deny coverage or charge higher rates based on a pre-existing condition or because an individual is lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender."
  • "Insurers generally must cover such vital preventive services as HIV screening, vaccinations, depression screening, contraception, intimate-partner violence screening, and annual well-woman visits, at no out-of-pocket charge."
  • "Healthcare.gov includes a health plan finder tool that allows consumers shopping for health insurance to filter for plans offering coverage for domestic and same-sex partners."

Posting to what he called the "five lies told by Democrats to sell Obamacare," Townhall's John Hawkins said that when the massive health care law is fully implemented, things will only get worse.

"Everything from death panels to unimaginably long waits for surgeries to bureaucrats denying effective, relatively common, currently in use treatments because they are 'too expensive' are all coming down the pike," he said.

Fwd: Marxist Obama dives for cover under pope's skirts

Marxist Obama dives for cover under pope's skirts

By Judi McLeod (Bio and Archives)  Thursday, December 5, 2013

Ugh! The falling-fast-in-popularity-polls Barack Hussein Obama is diving for cover under the cassock of Pope Francis, and it's going to require a take-no-prisoners Catholic League president like Bill Donohue to drag him back out.

Obama's M.O. for hiding under Francis skirts?  'The Artful Dodger of the White House' counts on people thinking that If the pope can be a Marxist, then the Marxist Fundamental Transformation of America can't be all bad.

The big difference here is that no one, not the mainstream media or the talking heads, jumped on the man they call Obama when he ran for the presidency back in 2008, but the whole world, including Fox News, was ready to jump on 'Pope Francis, the Marxist'.

If the far left can get away with branding Jesus as a Marxist, why not Francis?

As someone rooting for the pope from this humble corner, I've been waiting for someone of note from the Catholic world to step up to take Francis' side.

I found him this morning in Father John Zuhlsdorf, the 'Fr. Z' of one of the internet's most popular Catholic blogs.

Quoting Adam Shaw of Fox News column, Pope Francis is the Catholic Church's Obama, Fr. Z wrote: "God help us."

Adams wrote that "Pope Francis is undergoing a popularity surge comparable to the way Barack Obama was greeted by the world in 2008."

The Democrats introduced Senator Barack Obama from a stage made to look like The One was being brought forward from Greek columns.  Jorge Mario Bergoglio came out a balcony in St. Peter's Square, wearing his own shoes as just little, old me.

The Catholic Church has many Obamas out there running around, including the prominent one who brought the real Obama to Notre Dame.  A good thing, too, because we can now find it difficult to believe someone who could not bear to gaze at religious symbols including the powerful crucifix would hardly be "in love" with a pontiff who wears a Crucifix as part of his everyday dress.

But difficult indeed stopping media opportunists from jumping on the sensationalism bus when they get a break from having to focus on an American president who's the world's most infamous Marxist in office.

Yours Truly finds Obama's newly professed hero worship of Pope Francis as a cunning Marxist ploy.  But Fr. Z states it better by calling Obama's use of the pope's words as "utterly slimy".

"I wonder if what sparked this was Pres. Obama's nightmare speech on income inequality in which he quoted Pope Francis.  Obama's use of the Pope's words was utterly slimy, of course.  USA Today has it:

"During his income inequality speech on Wednesday, President Obama invoked one of the hottest names in public life: Pope Francis.

"Across the developed world, inequality has increased," Obama said. "Some of you may have seen just last week, the pope himself spoke about this at eloquent length.

"Obama then quoted Francis: "How can it be that it is not a news item when an elderly homeless person dies of exposure, but it is news when the stock market loses two points?

"Don't be shocked to see a president-pope meeting in the coming months."

"Blech.  Reading Obama quote Francis gives me the same feeling as the sight of a slug crawl", writes Fr. Z.

"I wonder if we are seeing a new trend.

"Did Rush's criticism of Evangelii gaudium the other day give "permission", as it were, to conservative newsies, etc., to start blasting away?"
Let's hope not, Fr. Z.  Otherwise the mainstream media will continue chasing after 'The Marxist Pope' rather than the President, the Marxist'.

Fwd: The Global War on Christians (Part 2)

http://www.christianpost.com/news/an-ironic-ecumenism-the-global-war-on-christians-part-2-110041/

The Global War on Christians (Part 2)

By Eric Metaxas, Christian Post Contributor

December 4, 2013|9:30 am

If I asked you to name the country that has witnessed the single greatest outburst of anti-Christian violence in recent years, you'd probably guess somewhere like North Korea or an Islamic country such as Egypt.

You'd be wrong. The answer is India. As John L. Allen tells us in his new book, "The Global War on Christians," in 2008, "a series of riots [in the state of Orissa] ended with as many as five hundred Christians killed." Even more shocking than the number of those killed was the way they were killed: "many were hacked to death by machete-wielding Hindu radicals."

By the time the violence ended, "thousands more were injured, and at least fifty thousand were left homeless."

Unlike North Korea or Saudi Arabia, the perpetrators were not government officials but private individuals and groups, acting with the implicit and sometimes explicit approval of local officials.

Thus, after a nun was "raped, marched naked through the streets and beaten," local "police sympathetic to the radicals discouraged the nun from filing a report and declined to arrest her attackers."

This was not the first or even the greatest example of violence perpetrated by Hindu radicals against an Indian religious minority. Similar violence in the state of Gujarat in 2002 claimed the lives of an estimated 2,000 Muslims.

Then, as in 2008, local radicals acted with the connivance of local and state officials. One of those officials, Chief Minister Narendra Modi, has even been barred from visiting the United States because of his alleged role in the pogrom.

The killings in India illustrate an important aspect of the global war on Christians: much, if not most, of the persecution comes at the hands of non-state actors. India is officially a secular democracy, which in India means "non-sectarian," whose constitution guarantees religious freedom.

But these guarantees are only as good as the willingness of state and local officials to enforce them. Given India's decentralized federal structure, Delhi has little power to force local governments to protect religious minorities.

And given the rise of radical Hinduism, known as Hindutva, this kind of protection is more necessary than ever. According to one survey Allen cites, recorded "incidents of violence against Christians" rose from an average of 38 per year between 1964 and 1996 to 170 in 2011.

And it's not only India. Neighboring Sri Lanka has also "seen a spike in anti-Christian violence in recent years." There, the perpetrators are Buddhists, including monks. The idea of a rampaging Buddhist monk may seem incongruous to westerners, but alas, that's the reality. Monks broke into an Assembly of God church and posted notices reading, "any form of Christian worship in this place is completely prohibited." Another pastor was forced to leave the area after her daughter was threatened.

On the other side of the subcontinent, Pakistani Christians live under constant threat from their Muslim neighbors. It takes very little to incite anti-Christian violence. Even drinking water at the wrong well can and has done the trick.

For some Hindus, Buddhists, and Muslims, persecuting Christians is an ironically ecumenical pursuit, especially if governments are willing to look the other way.

Our suffering brethren only have us to see their plight and tell their story, which is why Allen's book is so important.
