Obama's disregard of law 'has reached an unprecedented level'

by Cowboy ByteDecember 15, 2013

I wish someone would listen to him.
Check this out:

South Carolina Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy said Sunday that the Obama administration's deliberate flouting of congressional law "has reached an unprecedented level," claiming the time is now ripe for Congress to take the White House to court over executive overreach.

Gowdy spoke with Fox News' Shannon Bream about a House resolution authorizing a congressional lawsuit against the executive branch. Although individual lawmakers do not have standing to challenge the president, the provision would allow the institution of Congress itself to sue the Obama administration for ignoring laws passed by the legislative body.

Fwd: The Rich Pay 106 Percent of Income Taxes-and Should Pay None

The Rich Pay 106 Percent of Income Taxes—and Should Pay None

Posted by Ari Armstrong at 1:26 pm ET

The so-called "progressive" income tax is designed to tax "the rich" more—and that's what it's doing. CNBC reports:

Buried inside a Congressional Budget Office [CBO] report this week was this nugget: when it comes to individual income taxes, the top 40 percent of wage earners in America pay 106 percent of the taxes. The bottom 40 percent . . . pay negative 9 percent.

Of course, a "negative tax" is just an odd way of naming a subsidy. CNBC notes that the so-called "negative tax" consists partly of transfers "of money back to the taxpayer in the form of social security and food stamps."

Egalitarians claim the government should tax the wealthy more (and more and more) in order to subsidize the less-wealthy. But the key moral issue is not who the government should force to subsidize whom; rather, it is that government ought not force anyone to subsidize anyone.

Each individual has the right to live by his own judgment, to work as he deems best, to trade freely with others, and to keep the product of his effort—whether that product is enormous or tiny. The government has no moral right to confiscate the wealth of the rich to subsidize others—as it has no moral right to confiscate anyone's wealth.

The 240th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party

The 240th Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party
Ryan McMaken
December 16, 2013

Today is the 240th anniversary of the act of civil disobedience against taxation, corporatism, and colonialism known as the Boston Tea Party.

The economics of the situation that precipitated the event were quite complex, however, and about more than a simple tax increase on tea. As noted here by Edmond Bradley, a monopoly over the tea trade had been granted to favored corporate interests by the British Crown, which made the price of tea artificially high to begin with.

Charles Beard in his The Rise of American Civilization frames the conflict as a matter of "Colony vs Metropolis" in which the metropolitan center of government power in London exploited the people in the colonies through crony capitalist/corporatist policy.

Charles Adams explains how a British corporate welfare scheme to undercut smuggled Dutch tea is what led to the Tea Party:

The Boston Tea Party was a turning point in colonial reaction to British rule. By 1773 the tax issue was becoming obscure. Both parties were moving toward war.

Recently American postage stamps have depicted the Boston Tea Party as a glorious act of defying British colonialism. Most people believe it was a protest against British taxes on tea, but this is not true. American tea merchants had been boycotting British tea for five years. Smuggled Dutch tea was used throughout the colonies. In response, the British government decided to remove the duties on East Indies tea when it arrived in Britain so it could be sold in America at a price cheaper than smuggled Dutch tea. In addition, a monopoly on this cheap tea was given to loyal British merchants in the colonies. American tea smugglers would be put out of business. The Crown's plan was based on the assumption that American consumers would not boycott low-priced English tea, but would purchase it rather than the higher-priced, smuggled Dutch product.
The implication of this to American merchants was frightening. If a monopoly could be granted for tea, it could be granted for other products as well. Economic sanctions of this kind could destroy American merchants. In protest, Bostonian merchants disguised themselves as Indians, boarded merchant ships loaded with tea, and threw the tea into the harbor.

Lew Rockwell explains how, fundamentally, the Boston Tea Party was about free trade and against taxes and special privileges:

The Declaration of Independence accuses the King of "cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world" and "imposing Taxes on us without our Consent"-with the second directly following the first. It is impossible to understand the meaning of this without understanding that the Boston Tea Party was a protest against the use of trade by the state to benefit some at the expense of others.
Our agenda today ought to be exactly that of the Sons of Liberty in Boston: the right to economic enterprise should be unimpeded by taxes or special privileges. This is all that true free traders, in the tradition of the American revolutionaries, have ever demanded.

The Great Republican Deception

The Great Republican Deception
Laurence M. Vance
December 15, 2013

Senate Republicans are still trying to block Obama's judicial and other appointments. Meanwhile, House Republicans just passed the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2013 to fund the federal government for the next two years. The bill passed by a margin of 332-94. There were 169 Republicans out of 231 that voted in favor of the bill. The problem? The overwhelming majority of the spending authorized is not constitutional, and much of it is pure evil like funding for the TSA and DEA. It doesn't matter who runs the bloated, unconstitutional agencies of the federal government–the agencies need to be abolished. It doesn't matter who the judges are when the laws are so many and so arcane and so unjust–the laws need to be eliminated or changed. The idea that the Republicans in the Senate are actually doing something that means anything because they are blocking Obama's appointments is ludicrous.

Click on the link above BSP-SMG book. This is a fully detailed PDF for a home build 9mm sub-machine gun. It is even simpler than the last set of plans I posted. It is complete with drawings and templates .   This shows the absolute futility of the Democratic gun banning schemes. Want a bigger magazine? Just make it a little longer.

Obama is depressed. Ha Ha Ha Ha!

by Dr. Eowyn

A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds that the POS's approval rating has tanked. More Americans disapprove of Obama's job performance than ever before: some 54% say they disapprove, which is the highest mark in his presidency. Even more significant is the fact that only 37% think he is honest and straightforward (down 5 points from June).

Reportedly, the POS is depressed by his plummeting approval ratings, so much so that his minions at the White House tried to cheer him up with "showing him some love." [Pass me the barf bag, please!]

John Podhoretz reports for the New York Post that on Dec. 3, 2013, the White House staff assembled in the White House briefing room to hear their boss deliver yet another speech on the disaster that the POS has forbidden the media to refer to as Obamacare.

As Podhoretz describes it:

Finally, after two months of horror, President Obama heard cheering when he discussed ObamaCare.

OK, so the cheering came from members of his own staff [...] yesterday wasn't about ObamaCare. It was about Obama. It was about bucking up the boss. It was about showing him some love.

The fact that Obama was in on the tribute to himself only adds to the poignancy. You have to be a little desperate to agree to organize and promote a support rally to boost your own spirits.

He got the applause he wanted. He got the love he needed. He got MSNBC talk personalities to speak admiringly of him. So by those standards, if by no other, the speech was a roaring success.

It may even have kicked off a new lifestyle trend: Are you a boss? Things getting you down? Have a pep rally in the staff cafeteria and make sure your staff gives you a big round of applause!

But the White House cheering squad only temporarily boosted his spirits. National Enquirer reports, Dec. 13, 2013, that, with his popularity plummeting to historic lows, Barack Obama has suffered a "secret meltdown."

White House insiders say the deeply depressed Commander-in-Chief is hardly eating or sleeping, hasn't talked to Mooch in weeks and is convinced everyone hates him.

A source says:

"Barack is shattered that his presidency and his life are in free-fall. He can't believe the American public has turned on him so viciously, mainly because of the Obamacare disaster. No one has been able to help him. Michelle has tried everything she can to comfort him, but he just snaps, 'Go away. Leave me alone.' Barack watches news reports, reads the papers and sees the shocking poll results – and he loses it. When he saw one report that his approval rating had plummeted to a staggeringly low 37 percent, he had a total meltdown. He buried his head in his hands, saying, 'Everybody hates me.' When he raised his head, his eyes were glistening with tears. He's lost the confidence and affection of the public that he so desperately needs to go on with the hardest job in the world. A recent CBS poll said the 52-year-old President has a lower job approval rating than Toronto Mayor Rob Ford – who admitted to smoking crack and is still five points HIGHER than Obama! That was the last straw for Barack. He was mortified and humiliated."

Lest you scoff at the National Enquirer for being a mere supermarket trash tabloid, recall that it was the National Enquirer that alone doggedly pursued and broke the John Edwards adultery and "love child" story, for which the tabloid was nominated for a Pulitzer award.

No wonder the POS is taking off for a 17-day vacation (more than half a month!) in Hawaii. (H/t FOTM's swampygirl)

That's what pathological narcissists do when they experience a severe setback -- they withdraw and retreat into isolation.

But the withdrawal won't be permanent. After the narcissist licks his wounds in private, he'll return cockier than ever. Just you wait and see.

Fwd: Habitat Plans Cardboard Housing For The Homeless

CAP News
Habitat Plans Cardboard Housing For The Homeless
Habitat Plans Cardboard Housing For The Homeless
A prototype home that sits along N Broadway St in Wichita has drawn the ire of critics who say Home Depot has put self-promotion ahead of its cause.

WICHITA, Kan. (CAP) - Habitat for Humanity's Wichita chapter has announced a new program aimed to help curb a growing problem in that city. Starting this week, Habitat volunteers will begin building cardboard houses for the city's homeless residents.

"You say refrigerator box, I say mobile studio apartment," said Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer. "We're not just throwing boxes at the homeless, we're throwing double-density corrugated cardboard houses at the homeless."

Habitat's newest effort is a joint venture with Home Depot, who not only donated 27 intact cardboard boxes to help get the program off the ground, but also offered three roofing specialists to help erect the structures. Some homeless advocates are calling it "mission accomplished."

"I've never spent a single night on the street," said Jonas Reid of the Kansas Statewide Homeless Coalition, "but I have stepped inside one of the deluxe models. Talk about toasty! I think you'll be hard-pressed to find any weather that can penetrate that baby."

An effort is also underway to lobby the US Postal Service to assign street numbers to the houses so residents can receive their fair share of junk mail, which officials believe will go a long way in making the boxes feel like home.

Additionally, Habitat plans to follow Florida's lead and begin offering free wireless internet to the homeless as early as next month.

"You know, we may watch them fight each other and post the videos on YouTube just to help Google make more money from advertising," said Reid, "but deep down, we know the homeless are people, too. Just a smelly variety, is all."

U.S. cardboard manufacturers' sentiment was improved slightly on word of the new program, with the NAHB/Wells Fargo Cardboard Housing Market index up three points to 34. Trade associations says they are upbeat about prospects for the first half of next year.
